TCG Releases Research on Arts Education

Workshops and classes in schools are the most common form of arts education programming, according to the surveyed theatres in the Special Report on Education 2011: Indispensible Resources. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the report compiles the essential arts education resources from the past year, along with the results from the TCG Education Survey 2011. Since 1999, TCG's education reporting has provided theatre professionals with the latest research, statistics and evolving methodologies in arts education.

Theatre Communications Group Releases New Research

According to the Taking Your Fiscal Pulse 2012 snapshot survey, 90% of surveyed theatres believe their situation is holding steady or on the upswing. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and conducted in collaboration with the Association of Performing Arts Service Organizations (APASO), the Taking Your Fiscal Pulse survey captures the most recent state of affairs for 206 participating theatres. The report conveys actual and projected activity for theatres' fiscal year ending anytime in 2012.

TCG Playwrights in Conversation Series Welcomes Ping Chong, 11/26

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC and WQXR, announce the fifth event in the series, TCG Playwrights in Conversation: Discussions and Readings-UE 92/12: 20th Anniversary Commemorative Performance. This series features TCG authors in conversation, as well as readings of their work by featured artists, presented at The Greene Space, WNYC and WQXR's innovative broadcast studio and performance venue.

Theatre Communications Group Releases 32nd Annual Report; Not-For-Profit Theaters Add $1.94 Billion to Economy

Not-for-profit theatres contributed nearly $1.94 billion to the U.S. economy and attracted 34 million attendees, according to Theatre Facts 2011. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), Theatre Facts is the only in-depth report that examines the attendance, performance and overall fiscal state of the not-for-profit professional theatre industry. Theatre Facts 2011 is based on the TCG Fiscal Survey, compiling data from theatres' fiscal year ending between October 31, 2010 and September 30, 2011. First published in 1980, the annual Theatre Facts report examines unrestricted income and expenses, balance sheets, attendance, pricing and performance details.

TCG Announces Seventh Round of Recipients of Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships

The William & Eva Fox Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, are pleased to announce the seventh round of Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowship recipients. The program is designed to support actors' professional and artistic development, to enrich relationships between actors and nonprofit theatres and to ensure continued professional commitment to live theatre. Funded by the Fox Foundation and administered by TCG, the fellowship is one of only a few programs of its kind for actors in the country.

Theatre Communications Group Announces New Appointments to Board of Directors

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces new leadership of its board of directors and six new members. Lydia R. Diamond, playwright, and Diane Rodriguez, associate producer/director of new play production, Center Theatre Group, will assume the joint positions of vice president. They succeed James Bundy, artistic director, Yale Repertory Theatre and Rachel Kraft, executive director, Lookingglass Theatre Company. Philip Himberg, producing artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, will continue to serve his term as board president. Roche Schulfer, executive director, Goodman Theatre will continue to serve as treasurer and Ralph Bryan, managing director, Bryan-Billauer-Kozo, Financial Strategies Group, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC will succeed Olga Sanchez, artistic director, Miracle Theatre Group, as secretary.

Trinity Rep Hosts Press Conference Announcing Theatre Program for Military Families, 9/28

Trinity Rep announces that they will be hosting national launch of Theater Communications Groups (TCG)'s Blue Star Theatres Program for Military Families. The press conference will be held on Friday from 1:45-2:15pm at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI. In partnership with Blue Star Families and with support from MetLife Foundation, TCG's Blue Star Theatres program will connect a variety of theatre offerings to military personnel and their families across the United States. This initiative recognizes the profound contributions of service families and seeks to build stronger connections between theatres, military families and their communities.

MetLife and TCG Announce Latest 2012 Aha! Program Recipients

MetLife Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) announce the fifth round of recipients for the MetLife/TCG A-ha! Program: Think It, Do It, which supports the creative thinking and action of TCG Member Theatres with the goal of impacting the larger theatre community. Five theatres were awarded grants totaling $225,000 to either research and develop new ideas or experiment and implement innovative concepts.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) Holds National Conference In Boston, 6/21-6/23

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) convened 1,000 theatre practitioners from around the world at its 22nd National Conference June 21-23 in Boston. This year's conference was the culmination of TCG's 50th anniversary and the beginning of TCG's year-round conference and online community, Conference 2.0. The conference theme of Model the Movement invited attendees to transform their field into a movement for the digital age by better sharing, measuring and adapting models of making theatre. Executive Director Teresa Eyring also publically shared for the first time TCG's new vision statement.

Theatre Communications Group Announces Recipients of Inaugural Leadership U[niversity] Program

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG) announce the inaugural round of recipients for the Leadership U[niversity] program. Six early-career theatre leaders will receive One-on-One grants for professional development via mentorships at TCG Member Theatres. Eight mid-career and veteran theatre professionals at TCG Member Theatres will receive Continuing Ed grants for learning opportunities to advance their leadership skills. The overall intent of this program is to strengthen the field by developing the individuals who are the core and the future of theatre.

24th Street Theatre Receives Peter Zeisler Memorial Award

A national spotlight shone on Los Angeles-based 24th Street Theatre at the 2012 TCG (Theatre Communications Group) National Conference in Boston when the 15-year-old theater was honored with the Peter Zeisler Memorial Award for"Outstanding Achievement In The American Theatre."

Seth Godin to Speak at TCG National Conference in Boston

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces that digital-marketing pioneer and best-selling author Seth Godin will speak at the 22nd annual TCG National Conference in Boston from June 21 to 23, 2012. This multiday convening will bring 1,000 theater practitioners together from around the world to conclude TCG's year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

TCG Announces New Audience Development Program: Audience (R)Evolution

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has received $1.45 million from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to launch a new program for audience and community engagement, Audience (R)Evolution. Building off of the success of TCG's twelve-year New Generations: Future Audiences program, the program will study, promote and support successful audience engagement models across the country. Unfolding over three years, Audience (R)Evolution will include four components to achieve these goals: research and assessment, a convening, grant-making and widespread dissemination of audience engagement models that work.

TCG/ITI-US Celebrates the 50th Annual World Theatre Day

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre and home of the U.S. Center of the International Theatre Institute (ITI-US), invites all theatres, individual artists, institutions and audiences to celebrate the 50th annual World Theatre Day on March 27, 2012. Each year, a renowned theatre artist of world stature is invited by ITI Worldwide in Paris to craft an international message to mark the global occasion. This year the message will be written by award-winning actor, director and producer John Malkovich. Upon its release in March, the message will be translated into more than 20 languages to reach tens of thousands in the international theatre community.
