TCG National Conference in San Diego to 'Cross Borders' Between Cultures, 6/19-21; Heads to Tijuana

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces that Crossing Borders will be the theme of the 24th annual TCG National Conference in San Diego from June 19 to 21, 2014. In addition to challenging both the practical and conceptual barriers to strengthening the theatre field's vitality, literal borders will also be crossed when attendees journey to Tijuana, Mexico to engage with local artists and culture. This multi-day, international event will draw more than 1,000 theatre professionals from around the world for artistic and intellectual exchange through meetings, speeches and performances. Lauded theatre performer and playwright Taylor Mac will be one of the featured presenters, with more speakers to be announced soon.

Blue Star Theatre's Program for Military Families Reaches 108 Participating Theatres in 35 States; San Diego Event Set for Today

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, and Blue Star Families, the country's largest chapter-based military families non-profit organization, have announced that 108 theatres in 35 states have now joined the Blue Star Theatres program. In partnership between TCG and Blue Star Families, with support from MetLife Foundation, Blue Star Theatres connects a variety of theatre offerings to military personnel and their families across the United States. This initiative recognizes the profound contributions of service families and seeks to build stronger connections between theatres, military families and their communities through unique programming, special discounts and more.

Michael Milligan, Heather Raffo & Lisa Ramirez Set for MERCY KILLERS Talkback Tomorrow

On Thursday, January 30, 2014, after Michael Milligan's powerful off-Broadway production MERCY KILLERS, Teresa Eyring will conduct a talkback with three actors - all who have written and performed powerful, socially relevant plays produced by important regional theaters. This is the continuation of a conversation between MERCY KILLERS Director Tom Oppenheim and Teresa Eyring about actors who empower themselves by creating their own work and will begin at approximately 8:40PM, after the 7:30PM performance of MERCY KILLERS.

TCG Reveals Third Round Global Connections Recipients

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, has announced the Cycle A recipients for the third round of Global Connections. Supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this grant program encourages reciprocity and cultural exchange throughout the world through ON the ROAD grants to foster new relationships with international colleagues and IN the LAB grants to further pre-existing international collaborations. Now in its third year, the Global Connections program awarded up to $5,000 to seven projects through ON the ROAD and $10,000 to three projects through IN the LAB.

Steppenwolf, Pasadena Playhouse Among First Round of Audience Revolution Grant Recipients

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the first round of recipients for the Audience (R)Evolution grant program. Funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Audience (R)Evolution grant program will award ten grants for a total amount of almost $800,000, including total general operating support of over $118,000, through two initiatives:

Everyman Theatre to Host Panel this Weekend with Top-Level Theatrical Leaders

On this Saturday, January 18th, Everyman Theatre welcomes top-level theatrical leaders for its panel discussion entitled "How Women's Voices in the Theatre Reflect Our Culture." The panel is a part of the new discussion series, The World of the Play, which began earlier this season.

TCG Announces Diane Rodriguez as Board Chair

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, announces new leadership of its board of directors and three new members. Diane Rodriguez, associate producer/director of new play production at Center Theatre Group, succeeds Phillip Himberg, producing artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, as board president. Robert Hupp, producing artistic director of Arkansas Repertory Theatre, joins playwright Lydia. R. Diamond as joint vice presidents. Tim Jennings, managing director of Children's Theatre Company, succeeds Roche Schulfer, executive director of Goodman Theatre, as treasurer. Ralph Bryan, managing director-investments of Wells Fargo Advisors, remains as secretary.

TCG Releases Special Report on Arts Education

Workshops and classes in schools are the most common form of arts education programming, with nearly half of all programming targeting ages 12-18. These findings reflect the over 100 theatres that participated in the TCG Education Survey 2012 for the Special Report on Education 2012: Arts Education at the Core. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the report also compiles essays from leading theatre education directors on the impact of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) on arts education as well as CCSS resources from the past year. Since 1999, TCG's education reporting has provided theatre professionals with the latest research, statistics and evolving methodologies in arts education.

TCG Releases Revised, Complete Edition of ANGELS IN AMERICA

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the publication of a Revised and Complete Edition of Angels in America by Tony Kushner. Available in both paperback and hardcover, this new edition contains both Part One: Millennium Approaches and Part Two: Perestroika in the revised versions that were performed in the 2010 Off-Broadway revival, as well as a new author's introduction.

Geva Theatre Center's Mark Cuddy Named New Producer of Cape Playhouse

Richard B. Hawes, Jr., President of the Board of Trustees of the Cape Playhouse and Cape Cod Center for the Arts, today announced that veteran theatre leader, Mark Cuddy, will assume the newly-created position of Playhouse Producer and Chief Executive of the Cape Cod Center for the Arts. Mr. Cuddy has been the Artistic Director of the largest producing theatre in New York State outside of Manhattan, Rochester's Geva Theatre Center, for the past eighteen years. He will continue in that position as he begins with the Playhouse immediately. Mr. Cuddy has led theatres across the country for over thirty-three years, and serves on the Board of Directors of Theatre Communications Group, the nation's service organization for the advancement of professional, not-for-profit theatres.

Hartford Stage Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Retrospective, Gala and More, Beg. Tonight

The Past Presidents Council of the Board of Hartford Stage invite you to save the dates for its 50th Anniversary celebrations, including a 50 Year Retrospective: A Conversation with all Five Artistic Directors tonight, November 3, 2013; the Hartford Stage 50th Anniversary Celebration on November 4, 2013; and the Party in the Paint Shop: 50th Anniversary Gala on April 26, 2014.

TCG Finds Not-for-Profit Theatres Bring in $2 Billion to U.S. Economy

Not-for-profit theatres contributed nearly $2 billion to the U.S. economy and attracted 36.7 million attendees, according to Theatre Facts 2012, released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG). Based on the annual TCG Fiscal Survey, Theatre Facts is the only in-depth report that examines the attendance, performance and overall fiscal state of the not-for-profit professional theatre industry.

Dana Ivey, Richard Thomas & More Set for Hartford Stage's 50th Anniversary Celebration Weekend, 11/2-4

Dana Ivey, Richard Thomas, Bill Raymond and other notable actors and directors will lead the applause as Hartford Stage celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Three events create the capstone of the year-long festivities: same day performances of La Dispute and Macbeth on Saturday, November 2; a 50-Year Retrospective: A Conversation with all Five Artistic Directors at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 3; and the Hartford Stage 50th Anniversary Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Monday, November 4.

TCG Announces Cycle A Recipients of Leadership U[niversity]-Continuing Ed Program

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) announces the 2013 Cycle A recipients of the Leadership U[niversity]-Continuing Ed program. Through the support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, grants of up to $5,000 will support four mid-career and veteran theatre professionals at TCG Member Theatres for learning opportunities to advance their leadership skills. The goal of this program is to strengthen the field by developing the individuals who are the core and the future of theatre. The Cycle B Continuing Ed grant application process will launch in October of 2013.

VENUS IN FUR is Nation's Most-Produced Play for 2013-14 Season

American Theatre magazine, published by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), has released its annual October 'Season Preview' issue, featuring the Top 10 Most-Produced Plays list. Based on the 2013-14 seasons reported by TCG's Member Theatres in Theatre Profiles, the Top 10 list omits holiday themed shows (such as The Santaland Diaries and A Christmas Carol) as well as works by Shakespeare. The issue also features articles on successful playwright and actor relationships, musical adaptations of Shakespeare, and Robert Schenkkan's two plays based on the life of President Lyndon Johnson.

Stella Adler Studio of Acting to Present COUNTY OF KINGS & MERCY KILLERS, 9/19

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is excited to announce a one-night-only opportunity to see two of Off Broadway's most celebrated shows, Lemon Andersen'sCounty of Kings and Michael Milligan's Mercy Killers, as part of the Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts. The performances will be followed by a discussion with Mr. Andersen and Mr. Milligan that will be moderated by Teresa Eyring, Executive Director of Theater Communications Group. Andersen and Milligan stand out in the theater world as examples of artists who react to challenges in their lives by writing and performing in meaningful theater pieces.

Chomet, Sullivan, Greenspan and More Among TCG & Fox Foundation's Actor Fellowship Recipients

The William & Eva Fox Foundation and Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, have announced the eighth round of Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowship recipients. The program is designed to support actors' professional and artistic development, to enrich relationships between actors and nonprofit theatres and to ensure continued professional commitment to live theatre. Funded by the Fox Foundation and administered by TCG, the fellowship is one of only a few programs of its kind for actors in the country.
