Black Dance Stories has announced its August 2020 lineup featuring dancers and choreographers who use their work to raise societal issues, strengthen community through their programming, and use history as a source of inspiration.

Chicago-based new-music sextet Eighth Blackbird, winners of four Grammy Awards for their previous Cedille Records albums, are heard in the world-premiere recording of Singing in the Dead of Night, a collaborative, all-instrumental program created for the ensemble by American composers David Lang, Michael Gordon, and Julia Wolfe, founders and leaders of New York's Bang on a Can collective.

New York Live Arts' (Live Arts) Live Feed creative residency and commissioning program presents the world premiere of light and desire, a new evening-length work by the NYC-based dancemaker and professor Colleen Thomas, featuring an ensemble of acclaimed international female performers and artmakers. The piece - anchored by a short film by the award-winning filmmaker Carla Forte - looks at how women artists cope under unjust and manipulative power structures. light and desire will be presented at New York Live Arts Studio (219 W 19th Street, New York, NY 10011) from Wednesday, March 25th through Saturday, March 28th; all performances at 7:30 pm.

Jacob's Pillow, in partnership with the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) and the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), invites early career dance presenters to apply for an immersive professional development experience at Jacob's Pillow, August 5-8, 2020. The third annual Forum, reinstated in July 2018 in response to field-wide interest, is developed in collaboration with key partners from across the U.S. and designed to be a catalytic opportunity for early career dance presenters.

Northport's John W. Engeman Theatre does it again with a thrilling production of Tony award-winner Matilda, the musical. The lavish incarnation, superbly directed by Igor Goldin, runs at the exquisite Long Island venue through December 29th. On Tuesday, November 19, LUMBERYARD Center for Film and Performing Arts partnered with Bill T. Jones/New York Live Arts to host an event at the Park Avenue Armory addressing a growing structural challenge facing the city's performing arts presenting field: the need for technical-rehearsal residencies for NYC-based artists to develop new work. Today, the Orpheum Theatre Group announced the lineup for the 2019-2020 On Stage at the Halloran Centre series. In addition to the 12-part Music Series and 3-part Theatre Series, the On Stage season will introduce two new series - the Songwriters Series and The Orchestra Unplugged symphony series. 10 Hairy Legs, the male repertory dance company, holds its 7th consecutive New York Season with a return to New York Live Arts June 27-29. Presented are World Premieres by Larry Keigwin and Adam Barruch. Barruch's work will have a newly composed score by Roarke Menzies. Larry Keigwin is a native New Yorker and choreographer who has danced his way from the Metropolitan Opera to Broadway and back. He founded KEIGWIN + COMPANY in 2003 and as artistic director, he has led the company as it has performed at The Kennedy Center, The Joyce Theater, The Guggenheim, and New York City Center, among many other venues. Adam Barruch currently creates and performs work under the epithet of his own company, Anatomiae Occultii. In addition, he has also created works for companies such as The Limón Company, Ailey II, Keigwin + Company, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, River North Dance Chicago, BalletX, Whim W'Him Seattle Contemporary Dance, Graham II, GroundWorks Dance Theater, Gina Gibney Dance Company and Minnesota Dance Theatre, as well as for dance icons Margie Gillis and Miki Orihara.

Bryan Arias, Artistic Director of ARIAS Company, receives the Jacob's Pillow Fellowship at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post. The fellowship includes a $15,000 grant, a residency at the Pillow Lab, and a residency at LIU Tilles Center. The newly established Fellowship represents a shared vision between the two organizations to broaden resources that allow artists to thrive and bring new work to stages in Massachusetts, New York, and beyond.

The acclaimed string quartet ETHEL performs the complete string quartets of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Julia Wolfe: Dig Deep, Early that Summer, Four Marys, and Blue Dress. This is the first performance of all of Wolfe's string quartets at one time, on one stage.
