Seattle Center Virtual Experiences Brighten the Dark Days of Autumn

The short, dark days of autumn present the perfect setting for snuggling up with a cup or glass of your favorite beverage and taking in all the outstanding online experiences offered by Seattle Center resident organizations and programming partners. Here are some of the virtual events planned for the month of November.

Georgiana Pickett and Shayla-Vie Jenkins Join Merce Cunningham Trust

Dancer/educator Shayla-Vie Jenkins and arts administrator/consultant Georgiana Pickett have joined the Merce Cunningham Trust, bringing the number of Trustees to nine. The expansion adds new voices and expertise to leading the pioneering choreographer's legacy into the future.

Black Dance Stories has announced its August 2020 lineup featuring dancers and choreographers who use their work to raise societal issues, strengthen community through their programming, and use history as a source of inspiration.

Eighth Blackbird Plays Music Of David Lang, Michael Gordon, And Julia Wolfe On New Album

Chicago-based new-music sextet Eighth Blackbird, winners of four Grammy Awards for their previous Cedille Records albums, are heard in the world-premiere recording of Singing in the Dead of Night, a collaborative, all-instrumental program created for the ensemble by American composers David Lang, Michael Gordon, and Julia Wolfe, founders and leaders of New York's Bang on a Can collective.

New York Live Arts' Will Present the World Premiere of Colleen Thomas' LIGHT AND DESIRE

New York Live Arts' (Live Arts) Live Feed creative residency and commissioning program presents the world premiere of light and desire, a new evening-length work by the NYC-based dancemaker and professor Colleen Thomas, featuring an ensemble of acclaimed international female performers and artmakers. The piece - anchored by a short film by the award-winning filmmaker Carla Forte - looks at how women artists cope under unjust and manipulative power structures. light and desire will be presented at New York Live Arts Studio (219 W 19th Street, New York, NY 10011) from Wednesday, March 25th through Saturday, March 28th; all performances at 7:30 pm.

2020 National Dance Presenters' Forum is Now Accepting Applications

Jacob's Pillow, in partnership with the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) and the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), invites early career dance presenters to apply for an immersive professional development experience at Jacob's Pillow, August 5-8, 2020. The third annual Forum, reinstated in July 2018 in response to field-wide interest, is developed in collaboration with key partners from across the U.S. and designed to be a catalytic opportunity for early career dance presenters.

For 7 days, Katie Workum Dance will present Anna, Darrin, David, Eleanor, jess, Katie, Leslie & Weena: The Door's Unlocked, an immersive, multi-platformed, week-long event with daily rotating performances, hybrid viewing-doing sessions, and other activated public engagements housed in Foley Gallery at 59 Orchard Street in New York, NY. The dances, the dancers, the actions, the contents of their work will shift day and night, and they invite you inside to warm up and unfold with them.

BWW Review: MATILDA at John W. Engeman Theatre

Northport's John W. Engeman Theatre does it again with a thrilling production of Tony award-winner Matilda, the musical. The lavish incarnation, superbly directed by Igor Goldin, runs at the exquisite Long Island venue through December 29th. LUMBERYARD and Bill T. Jones/New York Live Arts Address Gaps in New York City's Performing Arts Presenting Ecosystem

On Tuesday, November 19, LUMBERYARD Center for Film and Performing Arts partnered with Bill T. Jones/New York Live Arts to host an event at the Park Avenue Armory addressing a growing structural challenge facing the city's performing arts presenting field: the need for technical-rehearsal residencies for NYC-based artists to develop new work.
