Celebrated Tribute Acts Come To Suncoast In November

Suncoast Showroom will bring highly-acclaimed tribute acts to the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in November, including "The Police Experience - Tribute to The Police," "Fan Halen - Tribute to Van Halen" and "4NR - Tribute to Foreigner." A Halloween treat pairs live orchestra with the 1925 horror classic The Phantom of the Opera on The Soraya's large screen on Saturday, November 3 at 8:00pm. The original score ratchets up the spook factor with the world's foremost theater organ expert, Dennis James on the rare Allen theatre organ. CSUN alum Richard Kaufman returns to conduct the New West Symphony with the haunting score.

Chamber Music Society Of Detroit Celebrates 75th Anniversary Opening Night

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit will open its 75th anniversary opening night concert on Saturday, September 15 with the Montrose Trio performing Tchaikovsky's epic Piano Trio in A minor, the same piece that was performed at the Society's very first concert in 1945.  The program also includes Mendelssohn's Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66.  An exhibit of memorabilia from the CMSD's 75-year history will be on display in the lobby for the evening.  The concert is sponsored by Greenleaf Trust.

Trey Anastasio returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall for a solo performance on Friday, December 7, 2018.   Over the past three decades, composer/guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio has forged a multi-faceted career, winning acclaim in rock, classical, and theatrical circles. He is a founding member of Phish, one of today's most successful and innovative rock bands. Known for uncompromising musicianship and spectacular live performances, Phish released their 15th studio album, Big Boat, in October 2016 and finished the year with another sold-out four-night run at Madison Square Garden. Anastasio also tours regularly with the Trey Anastasio Band, which also released a new studio album, Paper Wheels, in October 2015.

Stavanger Symphony Orchestra Release Finn Mortensen Symphony Op. 5?

The boundary-shattering Stavanger Symphony Orchestra is thrilled release the official CD recording of Mortensen Symphony Op. 5, recorded by Grammy-nominated engineer Jim Anderson in Dolby 5.1 and 9.1. Anderson was featured in this month's issue Stereophile for his use of the use of CAR-60 phono cartridge, which the magazine described as giving the audio an, 'intensely well-focused, supremely stable, three-dimensional orchestral picture.' Stavanger's Mortenson Symphony originally debuted as a digital release in December of last year, though, the release is also available on BluRay with a vinyl release set for this summer on June 8.

Leonard Bernstein made one foray into Hollywood with an original film score: the 1954 romantic tragedy On the Waterfront, which is ranked by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of all time.  On Saturday, February 24 at 8pm, On the Waterfront will exuberantly come to life when the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) presents Richard Kaufman conducting Bernstein's electrifying score live, while the newly re-mastered film is shown in glorious high definition on the big screen with original dialogue intact.

Copeland was the drummer and co-founder of the legendary rock group The Police and has since had a productive career as a composer. Later this spring, LBO will present the West Coast Premiere of his latest opera The Invention of Morel, a time-bending sci-fi story that redefines the limits of human connection and the power of love. It was hailed as a brilliant piece of musical surrealism by The Chicago Tribune.
