Chicago Opera Theater (COT) presents The Consul, a Pulitzer Prize-winning opera by Gian Carlo Menotti. Hailed by the New York Times as an opera of eloquence, momentousness, and intensity of expression written from the heart, The Consul is a modern opera whose subject matter has proven to have lasting relevance since its premiere in 1950. This show features direction by former COT Artistic Director Andreas Mitisek, music direction by internationally renowned conductor Kristof van Grysperre, and stars legendary soprano Patricia Racette as Magda Sorel.

The Verdi Chorus will present its Fall 2017 concert 'Love's Passions and Potions' for two performances only at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica on November 18th and 19th led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum.

Last Friday, on the evening of September 15, immigrant musicians joined legendary Norwegian orchestra Stavanger Symphony Orchestra which has collaborated with Stewart Copeland, Faith No More side project Kaada/Patton, Detroit techno icon Jeff Mills, and other pop music luminaries for a free concert to an audience of both immigrants and native Norwegians, right in the foyer of the Stavanger Concert Hall. On June 17, 18, 23, 24, & 25, Long Beach Opera (LBO) will present five outdoor performances of the highly anticipated Southern California premiere of Frida. The opera celebrates the renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, her vivacious spirit, sexuality, fragility, and her tumultuous life with muralist Diego Rivera. Based on Argentinian author Adolfo Bioy Casares' 1940 novel "La invencion de Morel," Copeland's new adaptation examines the triumph of time-bending love over convention in a story of adoration and desire. "The Invention of Morel" features London-based actor, director and writer Jonathan Moore as Stage Director/Librettist together with COT's Artistic Director Andreas Mitisek as Conductor. The press performance will be February 18 at 7:30 p.m. Subsequent performances will be February 24 at 7:30 p.m.and February 26 at 3 p.m.
