QPL Honors the Legacy Of Martin Luther King Jr. With Author Talks, Book Recommendations, and Theatrical Performances

Throughout the month of January, Queens Public Library will be honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – whose birthday is January 15 – by deepening the public's understanding of his life and words through book recommendations, and events, both virtual and in-person, including author talks, musical and theatrical performances, storytimes, crafts and movie screenings.

Full Cast & Creative Team Announced for CLYDE'S at Berkeley Repertory Theatre

League of Chicago Theatres Calls for Entries for Samuel G. Roberson Resident Fellowship

The League of Chicago Theatres has announced the 2023 Samuel G. Roberson Jr. Resident Fellowship, an annual grant awarded to a Black Theatre Artist to fund a residency or collaboration with a Chicago area non-profit organization. This year the award will go to an Artivist – an individual who combines art with activism.

Caryn Campbell has been appointed to the position Executive Director of The Misty Copeland Foundation (MCF). Additionally, Sindy Folgar has been named Director of the MCF BE BOLD program. The appointments, effective January 2023, were announced today by Misty Copeland, MCF Founder and President.

FREDERICK DOUGLASS NOW Announced At August Wilson African American Cultural Center

After performing Frederick Douglass NOW on Martha's Vineyard, a site where Douglass himself spoke 145 years earlier, Obie Award-winning playwright, actor, and educator Roger Guenveur Smith will bring his acclaimed one-man show to the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) in Pittsburgh as a continuation of his partnership with the Center as its inaugural guest theater curator.

Camille A. Brown & Dancers Make Lied Center Debut

Heading one of the top dance ensembles in the United States, celebrated choreographer and two-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown leads her dancers through excavations of ancestral stories, encouraging each dancer to embrace their unique embodiment of the artistic vision and gestural movement. The company takes audiences on journeys through race, culture, and identity, blending the styles of modern, hip-hop, African, ballet, and tap to tell stories connecting history with contemporary culture.

The Golden Theatre was the place to be last night as Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-winning Topdog/Underdog officially opened on Broadway. Directed by Tony Award-winner Kenny Leon, it stars Emmy Award-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Candyman) and Tony Award-nominee Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, The Tragedy of Macbeth).
