Teatro Vista has announced the appointment of five new board members, expanding support, oversight and important new visibility for Chicago’s only Equity-affiliated Latine theater company.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) has announced the exciting line-up of the highly anticipated TD James Moody Jazz Festival. This year's program offers events combining jazz luminaries in collaboration with artists known for R&B, poetry, hip hop, and so much more. 

Veteran actor Eugene Lee will join Norm Lewis to star in the 20-week North American tour of Roundabout's 2020 Tony Award-winning Best Revival of the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning A Soldier's Play.

After performing Frederick Douglass NOW on Martha's Vineyard, a site where Douglass himself spoke 145 years earlier, Obie Award-winning playwright, actor, and educator Roger Guenveur Smith will bring his acclaimed one-man show to the August Wilson African American Cultural Center (AWAACC) in Pittsburgh as a continuation of his partnership with the Center as its inaugural guest theater curator.

Heading one of the top dance ensembles in the United States, celebrated choreographer and two-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown leads her dancers through excavations of ancestral stories, encouraging each dancer to embrace their unique embodiment of the artistic vision and gestural movement. The company takes audiences on journeys through race, culture, and identity, blending the styles of modern, hip-hop, African, ballet, and tap to tell stories connecting history with contemporary culture.

Cloud 21 International and Kultura PR International will present the fifth Annual Production Without Borders Showcase, a special event to be held on November 6, 2022 at Threshold Entertainment Studios in Santa Monica. The announcement was made today by Gotham Chandna and Nicole Goesseringer Muj.

The Golden Theatre was the place to be last night as Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-winning Topdog/Underdog officially opened on Broadway. Directed by Tony Award-winner Kenny Leon, it stars Emmy Award-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Candyman) and Tony Award-nominee Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, The Tragedy of Macbeth). The best of Broadway was at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Thursday, where The Piano Lesson, directed by Tony Award nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson and starring Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Danielle Brooks, opened on Broadway. All new production photos have been released from the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, ahead of the show’s opening night tonight, Thursday, October 13th at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

From October 11th-16th, we will be presenting multiple performances of four different plays, both new and from our repertory, in festival style with weekly all-access tickets available as well as tickets to individual performances. The works we are presenting were developed with our late Founder and Artistic Director Alice Spivak and continued in her honor by the ensemble she built.​

North Carolina Theatre has announce the full cast for its first production of the 2022-23 season, Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling. Directed by Lauren Kennedy, performances run from November 4-November 13 at A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater at Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh.

To commemorate the 40-year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s revolutionary Thriller album, the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music Entertainment are celebrating the artistic vision that anchored the biggest selling album of all time with a new official documentary. The film will feature never-before-seen footage and candid interviews.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2022/23 Jazz series at Walt Disney Concert Hall presents restless innovators Julian Lage and The Bad Plus (October 14, 2022); Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour featuring an incredible roster of virtuosic jazz stars including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Lakecia Benjamin, Christian Sands, Yasushi Nakamura and Clarence Penn (January 20, 2023); The Movie Music of Spike Lee & Terence Blanchard, highlighting the emotional music at the heart of some of the greatest films ever made (March 18, 2023); and the LA Phil’s Creative Chair for Jazz Herbie Hancock (April 2, 2023).

Rubicon Theatre Company will begin its 25th year with a “Starry Soiree” celebration headlined by Emmy, Tony, Grammy and SAG Award Nominee NORM LEWIS. At the October 8th event, attendees will be treated to a concert of musical theatre hits sung by Lewis, Broadway’s first African-American “Phantom” and celebrated artists of stage and screen.

Director Sidney Lumet followed a string of Oscar®-winning 1970s classics with this lavish adaptation of the popular Broadway musical The Wiz, noted for its lively score and all-Black cast.  The Academy Museum’s first anniversary screening of The Wiz will feature live dance performances by the Debbie Allen Dance Studio youth performers.

Topdog/Underdog officially begins previews on Broadway tonight, September 27. The production opens at the John Golden Theatre on October 20. Meet the cast bringing the story to life!
