Theatre Under The Stars' production of The Wiz is now open!

Though it's 2018 in Houston, Texas, at the height of the 2018 primary election, but thankfully, there's an escape from the tumultuous political climate where blue and red are the subject. The color of today is green.

Leading off the cast is Salome B. Smith in the role of 'Dorothy'. Smith is a recent graduate of Alabama State University where she performed in many theatrical productions including The Color Purple, Rent and Carousel. Marva Hicks is playing the role of 'The Wiz'. Hicks has appeared on Broadway in Motown The Musical, Caroline or Change, and The Lion King. Yvette Clark will play the roles of 'Evilene', 'Glinda', and 'Aunt Em'. Clark has appeared in numerous regional productions including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Showboat, Chicago, and Hairspray. Simone Gundy will play the role of 'Addaperle'. Gundy returns to TUTS after starring in the 2017 production of Memphis. Paris Nix is playing 'Tin Man'. Nix was last seen on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Allyson Kaye Daniel is 'Lion'. Daniel most recently appeared at TUTS as 'Miss Jones' in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Her other credits include Newsies, Ghost, and We Will Rock You. Christopher Campbell, who just appeared in the TUTS production of Oklahoma! as Will Parker, will play the role of Scarecrow

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) Gala, honoring Jim and Helen Shaffer for their decades of service and support to TUTS and the Houston arts community, was held on Friday night at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Cal and Connie Dalton and David Peck and Michelle Phillips co-chaired the event produced by the TUTS team and Live! Event Design.

Theatre Under the Stars presents MEMPHIS! The 2010 Tony Awards Best Musical winner, featuring a book by Joe DiPietro and music by David Bryan, is set in the 1950s. Houston actress, Simone Gundy, who competed on Season 11 of The Voice , will star as Felicia in Theatre Under The Stars' (TUTS) upcoming production of MEMPHIS!

The momentum of last year's first Dallas Cabaret Festival will continue with an outstanding line up for the Second Annual Dallas Cabaret Festival, July 27-29, at the Women's Museum at Fair Park (3800 Parry Avenue, Dallas, TX 75226). Opening this year's festival on July 27 at 7:30 p.m. will be the mesmerizing vocalist and former Raelette, Cynthia Scott . Cynthia will be debuting her new cabaret show 'All About Love.'

Brilliant costumes and catchy, well-written songs cannot salvage this provoking concept that ultimately misses the mark. This is not my story or your story, and no one in the room is encouraged to see themselves in Todrick's story (unless we are one of the ensemble dancers).
