a??a??a??a??a??a??a??The Chelsea Symphony's (TCS) 2019/2020 season, RISE UP, focuses on compositions that are meant to inspire and uplift the audience. The season includes beloved works such as Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Gershwin's An American in Paris, the indomitable Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler, and Mozart's Symphony No. 41 'Jupiter.' Alongside these warhorses of the classical canon, we present nine works by female composers or composers of color, two NYC Premieres, and six World Premieres.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic and L.A. Dance Project will present Benjamin Millepied's original choreography at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. They will perform selections from Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, in an experimental production that seamlessly fuses stage and screen, centering audiences within the intimate encounters of the tragic love story. Onstage dance, pre-recorded film, and a live video feed from the Bowl's offstage spaces will be arranged into one dynamic, unstable performance, bringing the star-crossed lovers to life today. A choreography for both bodies and camera, Millepied's Romeo and Juliet will use the entire theater to echo the turmoil of devotion and heartbreak in this classic tale. The evening will be a sensory celebration of love immortal.

San Francisco Ballet (SF Ballet) is presented by The Royal Danish Ballet at The Royal Danish Opera House in Copenhagen, Denmark, October 30-November 2, 2019, with four performances of Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson's Romeo & Juliet, set to Sergei Prokofiev's lush and evocative score of the same name. The tour marks the Company's first appearance at The Royal Danish Opera House, which was designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen and publicly inaugurated in 2005.

Unleash your inner-child as Pacific Symphony offers another unique concert experience, with a double-bill of both Prokofiev's symphonic fairy tale "Peter & The Wolf" and Ravel's one-act opera "L'enfant et les sortileges." No stranger to producing elaborate and magical stagings, Robert Neu is once again the stage director, returning after his fantastic work on "The Magic Flute." (He will return next season to direct Verdi's "Otello"!) Longtime artistic partner Pacific Chorale, led by Artistic Director Robert Istad, will join the Symphony on stage again, as well as the CSUF Singers and Southern California Children's Chorus. Returning mezzo-soprano Tess Altiveros plays the lead role, "The Child," in Ravel's "L'enfant."

San Francisco Ballet Announces 2020 Repertory Season

Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson and San Francisco Ballet today announced programming for the 2020 Repertory Season. Building on a heritage of commissioning groundbreaking dance from today's top choreographers, uncovering new choreographic talent, staging modern classics, and preserving the works that make up the canon of classic ballet, the 2020 Season places SF Ballet at the forefront of innovation and preeminence. Highlights include two new SF Ballet commissions by Cathy Marston and Trey McIntyre, and a co-commission with American Ballet Theatre of a work by Alexei Ratmansky; as well as works by George Balanchine, David Dawson, Harald Lander, Edwaard Liang, Benjamin Millepied, Mark Morris, Liam Scarlett, Helgi Tomasson, and Stanton Welch. The Season's three story ballets include Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Wheeldon's Cinderella, and Tomasson's Romeo & Juliet.

Salt Lake's Gifted Music School Quartet To Appear On NPR'S From The Top

The Bear Quartet of The Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City, Utah will appear on an upcoming episode of From the Top, the hit NPR radio program featuring America's best young classical musicians. The show will air on Classical 89, Saturday April 27 at 11 AM and by podcast at fromthetop.org beginning April 22. The broadcast features performances and interviews with outstanding young musicians and Guest Host Peter Dugan. The show was taped at the Hollywood Scoring Studio in Los Angeles on February 24, as part of a three-day From the Top residency, comprised of creative music making, career development, and community engagement, designed to enrich both personal and artistic growth for thirteen young musicians from throughout the country.
