After its first five years of success in bringing “wayward” theatre to Orange County audiences, The Wayward Artist announces its most ambitious season yet. In Season Six, The Wayward Artist will bring nine different shows to its stage, including six main stage shows and three shows from Wayward Voices, the company’s unique program designed to amplify, enhance, and empower BIPOC voices in theatre. 

Cal State Fullerton's fall season kicks off – in-person! – with “The SpongeBob Musical,” based on Nickelodeon's beloved animated series, with musical production co-conceived by Tina Landau and featuring songs by a diverse group of pop artists; book by Kyle Jarrow; and direction by Sarah Ripper.

The Wayward Artist closes their season of family with a?oeGod of Carnagea?? by Yasmina Reza 

The Wayward Artist moves into season two examining the many faces of family. Guided by the mission to provide a home for the wayward artist in order to transform a wayward world, the wayward artists tell stories of families experiencing loss, mental health issues, sacrifice, abuse, and self-protection.

Tony nominated Cry Baby, the Musical with music by Adam Schlesinger, lyrics by David Javerbaum and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan opens at CSUF on October 27th. The production features direction by CSUF alum Sarah Ripper, musical direction by Mitchell Hanlon and choreography by William F. Lett, and runs October 27-November 12, 2017 in the Little Theatre on campus.

Red Scare on Sunset by Charles Busch, directed by CSUF graduate student Kyle Cooper, runs October 6-29, 2017 in the Hallberg Theatre on campus. Red Scare on Sunset is a funny and frighteningly pure parody of the 1950's Communist invasion of Hollywood. When film star Mary Dale discovers that her own husband has been lured into the local Communist party by way of a method-acting class, she wages a private war to save her husband and conquer the Beverly Hills Commies. The McCarthy era is turned on its head in this novel take on a serious subject. Red Scare on Sunset contains fog, haze, and herbal cigarettes.

Cal State Fullerton's 2017-2018 season opens with Frankenstein based on the novel by Mary Shelley, adapted by Bruce Goodrich and directed by CSUF Professor Maria Cominis, which runs September 29-October 15, 2017 in the Young Theatre on campus. An electrifying new version of Frankenstein will keep audiences mesmerized by the sheer power of Mary Shelley's 19th century classic.

Adaptor Jon Jory was the longtime producing director of Actors Theatre of Louisville who helped form the Humana Festival of New American Plays that produced several notable plays such as "The Gin Games" by Donald L. Colburn, "Crimes of the Heart" by Beth Henley and "Dinner with Friends" by Donald Margulies. In 2000, Mr. Jory's successful career led him to be inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.

Cal State Fullerton's production of Shakespeare's comedy, The Merry Wives of Windsor, runs March 11-March 26, 2016 in the Young Theatre on campus.  Helmed by director Sarah Ripper, The Merry Wives of Windsor was first published in 1602 and follows the character Falstaff who courts two wealthy married women, sending them identical love letters. When the two women find out about each other's letters, they pretend to respond to Falstaff's advances for their own amusement and to gain revenge.
