Coming directly from a multi record-breaking tour of the UK and Ireland, Stephen Schwartz' WICKED plays in Manila for the second time as part of a major international tour. Gala night was held last Wednesday, February 8, 2017.
Hailed as 'one of the most popular West End musicals ever' by the London Evening Standard, Stephen Schwartz's WICKED returns to Manila after a phenomenal run of the Australasian production three years ago. According to James Cundall, producer and chief executive of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, he brought back WICKED as a fulfillment of a promise he gave to Filipino audiences a few years back. He recalled that during the last night of the show at the main theatre of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the audiences serenaded the cast with songs as a goodbye gift and a treat to a great and fantastic show. 'We've never seen such a loving audience than here in the Philippines,' said Cundall.

WICKED, the musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, launched an international tour this summer from the UK and next up, the cast will travel east!
'At last, at last, at long last.'
These are the lyrics which ushered in the emotional climax of Broadway's Bright Star, the North Carolina-set musical which burned fast and, well, bright this past season on Broadway. So, too, did these lyrics close out the solo concert debut of the musical's incandescent star, Carmen Cusack, at Feinstein's/54 Below on August 9.
Fittingly so. This time last year, Cusack was little known in New York, having established herself as a bona fide star in the West End, as well as regionally in touring productions of Wicked and South Pacific. Cut to the summer of 2016, though, and Cusack has made one of the most celebrated Broadway debuts in memory and was Tony-nominated in this year's Actress in a Leading Role category (the same one deemed too full for Audra McDonald). It is no wonder, then, Cusack wasted no time capitalizing on her newfound cachet, booking three concerts at Broadway's supper club, before swiftly adding a fourth due to demand.
It's a thrilling experience for an audience when the curtain opens and there is an explosion of pure energy that grabs you and does not let go until the curtain call. The musical MEMPHIS has exploded on the stage of Players by the Sea Theatre in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, garnering much deserved praise, sold-out houses, and spontaneous standing ovations that begin even before the final number has finished.
