Humphreys School of Musical Theatre Presents Holiday Favorite SCROOGE

By:

Nationally recognized, The Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) Academy Program will present their annual production of SCROOGE, comprised of 18 homeschooled student actors, this holiday season.

SCROOGE , a 21st Century Musical, is being directed by HSMT Administrative Director Sam Brown with musical direction by Michael Mertz and choreography by Cathy Marmolejo. Regarding the production, Brown says, "It's equal parts bleak and heartwarming, and while it is (rightly) identified with the Christmas season, its message of compassion, forgiveness, and charity should not just be told and demonstrated during the holidays. It's our hope that through this piece of theatre, people will become moved to reach out and help those around them."

Since 2007, TUTS and HSMT have reached over 63,000 Houston children through the Musicals for Young Audiences (MYA) program. The MYA program combines TUTS' reputation for producing world-class musical theatre with our commitment to quality education and community engagement programming. The MYA program produces professionally staged school matinee productions written especially for children with education and literacy as key components. This program is more than an exciting field trip to downtown Houston; in many cases, these students are experiencing live theatre for the very first time. TUTS collaborates with public, private and home schools in the Greater Houston Area to bring the MYA program to the students. This program would not be possible without the generous support of our partners: Accenture, Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, ConocoPhillips, Enbridge Energy, Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation, KPMG LLP, LyondellBasell, Phillips 66 and Schlumberger. Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital is the official healthcare partner of The Humphreys School of Musical Theatre.

This essential holiday favorite, with music by Mark Holden and book and lyrics by Jim Bernhard, will delight children and parents alike. Sean Holshouser, a rookie to the Academy, leads this all-star student driven cast as this year's Ebenezer Scrooge. Other notable cast members include Lauren McDonald as The Ghost of Christmas and Miles Marmolejo as Bob Cratchit.

The cast is rounded out with Aaron Strack, Alaina Brownfield, Anneliese Kelly, Cameron Lieck, Courtney Schmitt, Emma Lyon, Joshua Wright, Julian Lammey, Kelly Lomonte, Maddie Pevey, Reed Gallagher, Annie Shouse, Ayvan Williams, Cashmir Khawaja, and Sarah Flavin.

Humphreys School of Musical Theatre educates and develops musical theatre students of all ages and ambitions, from the beginner to the Broadway bound. A myriad of courses, workshops and seasonal camps train pre-schoolers to pros in dance, acting and vocal technique.

SCROOGE runs November 29 through December 2, 2016 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For more information, call 713-558-8887 or visit tuts.com.
