Missouri State's College of Arts and Letters announced today that Robert Westenberg, Tony nominee for Broadway's INTO THE WOODS, will join its faculty in the fall 2016 semester as musical theatre coordinator and associate professor in the theatre and dance department.

Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine and the original cast of Broadway's INTO THE WOODS have returned to the New York stage. The Tony-winning composer and members of the original company, including Bernadette Peters and Chip Zien, reunited yesterday, June 21, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for an INTO THE WOODS reunion. The event was originally co-produced by Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA last year. Check out photos from inside the event below!

The historic reunion---formatted as part talk-show, part concert---featured not only its creators Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine waxing nostalgic about the making of this beloved show, but also had several members of the Original Broadway cast including Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Robert Westenberg, Kim Crosby, Danielle Ferland, and Ben Wright---all performing together on the same stage for the first time in years. Humorist and CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Mo Rocca served as the evening's wry, very amiable host and moderator. The results? Mind-blowingly awesome... not only for the incredible musical performances given by the reunited cast, but also for all the dishy, humorous, and, at times, emotionally-tinged inside info shared by the musical's genius collaborators.

Due to high demand, a second performance of the much-anticipated Into the Woods Reunion has been added to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts engagement in Orange County.

Audiences have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to journey back into the woods and American musical theater history with the creators and original Broadway cast of the award-winning musical Into the Woods on Sunday, November 9 at 6 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. Part conversation, part musical selections, this one-night-only reunion celebration is being written and produced by Eileen Roberts in association with Segerstrom Center for the Arts. It features special guests composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and author and director James Lapine, along with original Broadway cast members Bernadette Peters (The Witch), Joanna Gleason (The Baker's Wife), Chip Zien (The Baker), Robert Westenberg (Cinderella's Prince and Wolf), Kim Crosby (Cinderella), Danielle Ferland (Little Red Riding Hood) and Ben Wright (Jack). Mo Rocca is the moderator; Tedd Firth is the musical director.

The last few times I've seen a production at St. Edwards University's Mary Moody Northern Theatre, I've had to remind myself that I'm viewing a show featuring a cast of mostly college students. Every time, the production is of professional quality, and their current production of The Secret Garden is no exception. All audience members are bound to be mesmerized by the physical beauty of the stagecraft and the incredible performances.

Mary Moody Northen Theatre, the award-winning producing arm of the St. Edward's University professional theatre training program, concludes its 40th anniversary season with The Secret Garden, music by Lucy Simon, book and lyrics by Marsha Norman, based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and directed by Broadway veteran Robert Westenberg, running June 13 - 30, 2013.

Broadway luminaries and Riverdale's most talented performers will join forces for a 25th Anniversary concert production of Stephen Sondheim's classic fairy tale musical INTO THE WOODS, to be performed at the Riverdale YM-YWHA on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 8pm.

Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat star all about her many recent and upcoming endeavors, including the forthcoming feature films ADDICTED, 1982 and THE LAST LETTER, as well as the pilot for a new TV series, GUILTY, and, of course, her debut solo album project - the magnetic and beautiful Sharon Leal. In addition to discussing many aspects of her films to date and her starry assortment of co-stars and collaborators on them - Jennifer Hudson, Bill Condon, Bernie Mac, Samuel L. Jackson, Pam Grier, Chris Brown, McG and Cuba Gooding, Jr. included - Leal and I also discuss her theatrically-attuned work thus far in her career, having appeared on Broadway in RENT, as well as in starring in BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, regional work and in a prominent featured role as part of the big screen film adaptation of DREAMGIRLS.
