Casting is set for Studio Theatre's production of Pipeline, playwright Dominique Morisseau's searing drama about the school-to-prison pipeline and a mother desperately trying to keep her son from becoming ensnared in it. The production runs January 15-February 16, 2020 and is directed by Awoye Timpo. Starring are DC theatre favorite Justin Weaks (Studio's Curve of Departure) as high school student Omari and Andrea Harris Smith making her Studio debut as his mother, public school teacher Nya. In its recent People Issue, Washington City Paper's called Weaks a 'standout,' going on to say: 'D.C. theater audiences love Justin Weaks. ...Weaks came to D.C. for a job about four years ago, not expecting to stay. But he kept getting cast in shows, and lucky for local theatergoers, he's still here.'

We do not know the exact date, time, or words spoken, but in that moment when Susan B Anthony met Frederick Douglass, two paths merged and two movements would never be the same.

She is starring as Susan B. Anthony in Mosaic Theater Company's upcoming production, The Agitators.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING, playing at Cygnet Theatre through September 16th, has a premise that seems incongruous at first. This is an amazing, and emotional, immersive storytelling experience that explores such topics as depression and attempted suicide, but leaves the audience with a feeling of hope and sentimentality. Are things that diametrically opposed able to achieve such a result?
Cygnet Theatre is pleased to present a different kind of theatrical event with the West Coast premiere of Every Brilliant Thing. This immersive storytelling experience tackles the heavy issues of depression and suicide by blending comedy, improv, and audience interaction. Written by Duncan Macmillan in collaboration with comedian Jonny Donahoe and directed by Rob Lutfy, the production runs August 22 through September 16. Opening Night for media is August 25.
Athol Fugard is one of the most difficult modern playwrights to perform. His shows are largely punctuated by blunt dialogue, devoid of noticeable metaphor, and rely on the creation of highly realistic scene scapes defined oftentimes by the most mundane. None of his works exemplifies this style more than his most famous work, Master Harold… And the Boys. This is what makes Master Harold such a challenging work. Round House Theatre's new revival, which opened Monday in Bethesday, tries hard but doesn't prove up to the challenge of this dense work.
Round House Theatre continues its 2017-2018 Season with Athol Fugard's "Master Harold"… and the Boys, directed by Artistic Director Ryan Rilette. "Master Harold"… and the Boys runs from April 11 - May 6, 2018. Press night is Monday, April 16, 2018. Please see below for complete program details and ticket information.
