Today’s subject Psalmayene 24 is someone we can aptly classify as the whole package when we talk about artists in the DC theatre community. He is an accomplished writer/actor/performer and educator whose work has been enjoyed by audiences of all ages over the years. Currently Psalmayene 24 is the director of Arena Stage’s current Power Play entitled Tempestuous Elements. The show is currently playing in the company’s Fichandler space through March 17th.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater has revealed the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Tempestuous Elements, playwright Kia Corthron’s new work exploring the trailblazing career of visionary Black feminist and educational luminary Anna Julia Cooper.

The sacred and the secular are merged to show the need for connection in a broken world in playwright Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop in an amazing production at Bethesda’s Round House Theatre. A feminist narrative envelops this beautifully written play that portrays the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the eve of his final day on earth---as the tragic portent of his tragic assassination is conveyed to the consciousness of the audience.

Golf is a metaphor for “the haves and have nots” in playwright August Wilson’s masterful final play Radio Golf. This challenging play now being presented at Bethesda’s Round House Theatre is directed by Reginald L. Douglas with a finely tuned ear for the cadence of speech and the robust, all-encompassing writing style of August Wilson. 

It’s clear that a tremendous amount of talent, effort, and care has gone into this telling of The Tempest, and those affiliated certainly deserve high praise. Do yourself a favor and go see this production.

The Classical Theatre of Harlem is forging ahead with ambitious plans to bring back its signature production for audiences this summer. CTH’s “Uptown Shakespeare in the Park'' series will reopen this July with the New York premiere of SEIZE THE KING, a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Richard III by the award-winning playwright Will Power.
