African-American director David Norwood premieres a uniquely re-envisioned American version of TENDER NAPALM by renowned British playwright Philip Ridley (The Pitchfork Disney, Mercury Fur, The Fastest Clock in the Universe). This poetic two-hander originally premiered in London in 2011, before making a limited engagement Off-Broadway debut in 2012 to critical acclaim.

Red Bull Theater today announced the cast for their ninth annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes, featuring two brand new commissions from Kia Corthron and Marcus Gardley, alongside six brand new plays that have been chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country: Kate Abbruzzese, Terry Glaser, Eric Pfeffinger, Bridgette Dutta Portman, David Lerner Schwartz, Sofya Levitsky Weitz, and Matthew Wells.

MTC Associate Artistic Director Sarah Goodes directs Golden Shield, the first ever MTC NEXT STAGE Original to be produced, written by remarkable 25-year-old playwright Anchuli Felicia King, who this year alone will have her work performed on the stages of MTC, Sydney Theatre Company and The Royal Court in London.

Project Shaw recently presented Bernard Shaw's The Philanderer directed by J.R. Sullivan and starring Kerstin Anderson (currently My Fair Lady - Eliza understudy), Dan Butler (Broadway: Travesties, Twentieth Century, Biloxi Blues; Off-Broadway: The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me, The Irish Curse, Old Money, The Lisbon Traviata, Much Ado About Nothing, The Widow Claire), Caitlin Cohn (title role in Lolita My Love - York Theater), Tim Jerome (Broadway: The Phantom of the Opera, The Lyons, Tarzan, La Boheme, Grand Hotel, Me and My Girl), Amelia Pedlow(The Metromaniacs, Tis Pity She's a Whore - Red Bull Theater, The Liar, The Heir Apparent - Classic Stage Company), A.J. Shively (Broadway: Bright Star, La Cage aux Folles), and Nick Wyman (currently starring on Broadway in Network; previous Broadway includes Catch Me If You Can, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Sly Fox, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, On the 20th Century).

Lovers of new theatre will gather this August for an advance look at tomorrow's hits at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's 2019 New Works Festival at Palo Alto's Lucie Stern Theatre. This unique festival offers audiences an extraordinary opportunity to experience new plays and musicals in their early stages of development, and hear about the creative process in a "Meet the Artists" panel discussion. With multiple performances of each work, playwrights and composers are able to revise and refine their shows during the festival, allowing audiences to view the exciting evolution of brand new pieces of theatre. Jessica Paz and Nevin Steinberg have won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical for HADESTOWN.

The Eleventh Annual Running of the Red Bulls Gala Benefit took place on Monday June 3rd, at 6pm, celebrating the company's 16th Season and honoring director Daniel Sullivan, actor Condola Rashad, and the American Theatre Wing with the 2019 Matador Awards for Excellence in Classical Theater. Proceeds from the evening will support all of Red Bull Theater's programs including its Off-Broadway productions of The White Devil and Mac Beth, Revelation Readings series, and its Shakespeare in Schools initiative.

The OBIE Award-winning NAATCO, National Asian American Theatre Company, kicks off their 29th season with the World Premiere of Gordon Dahlquist's [Veil Widow Conspiracy]. Aneesha Kudtarkar directs a cast that will include Edward Chin-Lyn, Kimiye Corwin, Bruce McKenzie, David Shih, James Seol, Karoline Xu, and Aaron Yoo. This Off-Broadway limited engagement at Next Door at New York Theatre Workshop (79 East 4th Street) will begin performances Saturday June 8th with Opening Night set for June 15th (7pm).  Performances continue through July 6th only.

It's the players, more so than the play, that's the thing in director Erica Schmidt's psychologically intriguing Shakespeare adaptation titled Mac Beth. As with the current Daniel Fish-directed Broadway production of OKLAHOMA!, the focus of the evening is not so much on the text, but on the characters the actors are portraying who are portraying the characters in the text.

Theatre production company Parity Productions has released its monthly list of Qualifying Productions for June -their popular directory of New York City shows in which the individual creative teams have 50% of the positions filled with women and/or trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) artists (directors, designers, and playwrights). 

Gingold Theatrical Group continues the 14th Season of Project Shaw, Art as Activism: A Theatrical Survival Guide, a special series of evenings of plays that embrace human rights and free speech. All of GTG's programming, inspired by the works of George Bernard Shaw, are designed to provoke peaceful discussion and activism.

Red Bull Theater presents Mac Beth, the second of its two Off-Broadway productions at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street between Bleecker & Hudson Streets).

Sherlock Holmes is dead-he died in a struggle with his nemesis, Professor Moriarty, as both went over the edge of the cliff at Reichenbach Falls.  Or did he? The plot is definitely about to thicken, as Stage West presents the regional premiere of Jeffrey Hatcher's Holmes and Watson, in a 5-week regional premiere run at Stage West beginning Thursday, May 30.

Performances begin tonight, Tuesday May 7th,  at the Lucille Lortel Theatre  (121 Christopher Street between Bleecker & Hudson Streets). Tickets are now on sale through June 9th! Opening Night set for May 19th.
