Rooftop Films has teamed up with LOFT to present the second annual LOL Movie Series, five free outdoor events in New York City along the East River. The series will feature laugh-out-loud comedies, live music and performances by some of Upright Citizens Brigade's funniest female comedians. Raw, risque and x-rated, Leslye Headland's script first arrived at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzie Caplan and Rebel Wilson. Later the director and writer translated this into a stage play, and the playwright followed by producing another movie 'Sleeping With Other People,' supposedly a down and dirtier version of the iconic 'When Harry Met Sally.' While being featured in Rolling Stone, LA Times, and The New Yorker, Headland's play attempts to deal with several mean girls suffering from hangovers and a younger generation's views on a version of the 'Romantic Comedy,' or rom-com.
The Australian Theatre for Young People has announced two new scholarship opportunities for young Australians aged 18-26. Partnering with the Australian Theatre Company in Los Angeles and G'Day USA, the young recipients will mentor with ATYP in Sydney for one year, culminating in the opportunity to travel to L.A. to work on a project with ATC and be profiled at the G'Day USA Gala in January 2017.
