Eclectic announces casting for its 7th season opening show DEAR BRUTUS by J. M. Barry.

La Mirada Theatre For The Performing Arts & Mccoy Rigby Entertainment in association with T&D Productions, LLC present Mary Bridget Davies, Broadway's original 'Janis' starring in her Tony nominated performance A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, with choreography by Patricia Wilcox, musical direction by Brent Crayon, and created, written & directed by Randy Johnson. Born in Port Arthur, TX in 1943, Janis Lyn Joplin challenged racial and sexual stereotypes and created a sound and a style that has become legendary. She exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock and roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with more than a touch of Southern Comfort made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock Her unique sound, however, was originally created as a result of her love for some of the greatest African-American singers of all time. Newton native Kelly McIntyre evokes Joplin with her body language, a rapid verbal patter, and a powerhouse voice that can go from zero to sixty. The show is at its best when focusing on the musical numbers, a generous offering from the singer's canon of hits.

The Boch Center announced today that it is working with local archivist David Bieber to celebrate what would have been Janis Joplin's 75th birthday during its presentation of A Night With Janis Joplin at the Boch Center Shubert Theatre January 19-20, 2018. The birthday celebration will display historic pieces from Bieber's archive, bringing to life the legacy of rock and roll icon Janis Joplin.
