Deadline reports that sci-fi series 'Pandora' has been picked up for a second season at The CW.

Con el propósito de reconocer la labor y memoria histórica de la heroína del movimiento de Independencia y en el marco de su 177 aniversario luctuoso, el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), a través de la Coordinación Nacional de Literatura, inauguró la exposición Leona Vicario y su tiempo el miércoles 18 de septiembre en la casa donde vivió y murió una de las primeras mujeres periodistas del país, actual sede de la Coordinación Nacional de Literatura.

Con los sismos de septiembre de 2017, el patrimonio artístico mueble e inmueble de la nación presentó afectaciones menores o moderadas. Durante estos dos años ha sido atendido y restaurado por parte de la Secretaría de Cultura, a través del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), en coordinación con autoridades locales, estatales, federales y propietarios de este tipo de patrimonio.

Eight distinguished Canadian theatre artists have arrived in Stratford for the Festival's 12th annual Playwrights Retreat. Al conmemorarse el 177 aniversario luctuoso de Leona Vicario, fue develada una placa en la que se reconoce la trascendencia de su contribución al movimiento de Independencia de México. Durante la ceremonia, presidida por la secretaria de Gobernación, Olga Sánchez Cordero, en representación del presidente de la República, Andrés Manuel López Obrador; la directora general del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura, Dra. Lucina Jiménez, en representación de la secretaria de Cultura, Alejandra Frausto; la presidenta del Consejo Honorario de la Memoria Histórica y Cultural de México, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, y la jefa del Gobierno capitalino, Claudia Sheinbaum, la placa conmemorativa fue colocada en el número 37 de la calle República de Brasil, en el Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México.

El 21 de agosto se cumplirá el 177 aniversario del fallecimiento de una de las más fervientes impulsoras de la lucha por la Independencia de México: Leona Vicario, poeta considerada la primera periodista en México. En el marco del bicentenario de la Independencia, el Congreso de la Unión le concedió el título honorífico de Benemérita y Dulcísima Madre de la Patria.

The Lark has announced that playwrights Xavier Galva and Ife Olujobi have been selected as the recipients of the 2019-20 New Voices Fellowship, supported by the Jerome Foundation. This year long residency is designed to support extraordinary playwrights of color under 30, in order to to help address the lack of inclusion of early career playwrights of color in the field. The Fellowship includes a cash award of $15,000, plus a $3,000 Opportunity Fund for the purposes of research, travel, or other expenses, as well as access to The Lark's artistic resources and support. The New Voices program is part of a portfolio of Fellowships at The Lark, which aims to engage a diverse community of playwrights from around the world, at various places in their careers.

New York reggae-pop band, The Big Takeover, have premiered the new video for their latest single, “Shy,” via Audiofemme. Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer/songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, The Big Takeover blend Jamaican pop traditions with the spirit of Motown and uptown sophistication of the 21st-century retro soul and R&B revival scene. “Shy” is the first single from the band's upcoming fifth album, Spilling Water, and was produced by David Baron (Meghan Trainor, The Lumineers, and Jade Bird). The new video finds the New York band starring as guests on a fictional 70s late-night show to perform their upbeat single. “The song has a retro pop vibe that pairs perfectly with the retro late-night show theme,” Rushie told Audiofemme, adding, “We knew we wanted to do a performance video, but the idea for a retro late-night show came from the director [Dino Davaros].”

The Actors' Gang opens Toy Story Tempest, our annual Free Shakespeare in the Park production, on Saturday, August 3rd. Based on William Shakespeare's The Tempest and inspired by Pixar-Disney's Toy Story characters, this 45-minute family show runs every Saturday and Sunday through August 25th in Media Park.

The 37th annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were held on Monday, July 15th at Bard on the Beach in the BMO Mainstage in Vanier Park, an amazing theatrical venue in a magnificent setting. The awards celebrate excellence in professional theatre and salutes all the talent who contribute to  Vancouver's fantastic theatre scene. Fifty theatrical productions were nominated from last years' dynamic theatre season. 

Como parte del programa de Formación Literaria, la Coordinación Nacional de Literatura del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura abre siete diplomados en Creación literaria que por vez primera se impartirán en municipios de Tabasco, Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Guanajuato, Durango, Baja California Sur y Tamaulipas. Las sesiones comenzarán el 19 de julio y concluirán el 7 de diciembre.
