Signature Theatre announces additions to Signature's Board of Trustees.

Signature Theatre presents Fires in the Mirror, by Obie, Drama Desk and MacArthur Award winner Anna Deavere Smith, featuring Michael Benjamin Washington (The Boys in the Band) and and directed by Saheem Ali.

Signature Theatre (Paige Evans, Artistic Director; Harold Wolpert, Executive Director) has announced that its production of Fires in the Mirror, written by MacArthur Genius Fellow Anna Deavere Smith, featuring Michael Benjamin Washington, and directed by Saheem Ali, has been extended by one week and will now play throughDecember 1, 2019. The production begins performances on October 22 with a November 11th opening night in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10thAvenues).

Last night, Signature Theatre celebrated the one-millionth subsidized ticket sold under the 'Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access.' This is a massive milestone for this almost 15-year old initiative which provides tickets at accessible prices. A special reception was held in the lobby at the Signature Center on Wednesday, May 22nd.

The Signature Theatre production of Octet, a world premiere chamber choir musical by three-time Tony Award nominee Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812)and directed by Annie Tippe (Ghost Quartet), opened just last night, May 19, in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Octet will now play through June 23, 2019.

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2019 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. The nominations were announced this morning by the current stars of Waitress, Shoshana Bean and Jeremy Jordan, at the official announcement event at Sardi's Restaurant, which was streamed live online here at BroadwayWorld.

The 2019-2020 Signature Theatre Season will feature six works by five resident playwrights, including two productions by Signature's new Residency 1 playwright Anna Deavere Smith, world premiere plays from Residency 5 playwrights Katori Halland Dominique Morisseau, a New York premiere from new Residency 5 playwright Lauren Yee, and a new production of a Pulitzer Prize-winning play from Legacy playwright Horton Foote, the company announced today.

Boesman and Lena officially opened on Monday, February 26 in the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center. The production is a limited engagement through March 17, 2019.

Three-time Tony Award-nominee Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) begins his residency as Signature's first musical theatre writer with the world premiere of Octet, a musical directed by Annie Tippe (Ghost Quartet). Featuring a score for an a cappella chamber choir and an original libretto inspired by internet comment boards, scientific debates, religious texts, and Sufi poetry, Octet explores addiction and nihilism within the messy context of 21st century technology. Artistic director Paige Evans moderates a discussion with Malloy and Tippe, with cast members performing highlights prior to the premiere.

The Signature Theatre production of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner and Residency 1 playwright Lynn Nottage and directed by Obie Award-winner Kamilah Forbes, recently celebrated opening night on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
