Industry Pro Newsletter: AEA Members Authorize Strike, Boston Theaters Fight for Survival

AEA members voted to authorize a strike against the Broadway League of the development agreement - while this doesn’t mean the union will call a strike, it does give them another bargaining chip in their ongoing negotiations with the League. Regionally, we have a lot of stories of announced retirements and new leaders stepping into roles.

Review: NUNSENSE 2; THE SECOND COMING at TADA Theatre

If you enjoy nonsense, you will love NUNSENSE 2: THE SECOND COMING playing at TADA Theatre in the historic Creamery Building in Lincoln, Nebraska. Watch five nuns cavort, sing, and toss around zingers. Then afterwards, treat yourself to an ice cream downstairs.

Review: THE FROGS, Kiln Theatre

Considering their recent losses, physical theatre giants Spymonkey would have been justified to adapt a Greek tragedy rather than a comedy. The death of Stephan Kreiss in 2021 and the departure of Petra Massey to Las Vegas now leaves only Toby Park and Aitor Bassauri remaining.

Review: THE SENSATIONAL SEA MINK-ETTES World Premiere at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company

With the big Homecoming performance around the corner, the Sea Mink-ettes must battle malfunctioning facilities, tiring bodies, rising tempers… and a supernatural shift in reality. Vivian J.O. Barnes’ THE SENSATIONAL SEA MINK-ETTES, premiering at Woolly Mammoth through March 3, is a wholly unique show: hilarious, bawdy, unsettling, and poignant.

New Details of Chad Kimball Lawsuit Revealed; Shubert Bartender Lawsuit Expands

Every once and a while I like to do litigation updates because one of my pet peeves is how the media sometimes reports when a case is filed and then drop it. One such case is Chad Kimball’s lawsuit related to his departure from Come From Away. Another is the one bartenders at Shubert Organization theaters brought against the theater chain and others.

Review: SUNSET BOULEVARD at Showtunes Theatre

Dear Readers, if you know me at all you know my disdain for most things Andrew Lloyd Webber. With so much repetition and borrowing from other’s works, I just don’t see the appeal. But many love him and so it should come as no surprise that Showtunes Theatre would choose to dust off one of his grander works, “Sunset Boulevard” for their latest concert. And while the leads certainly got to show off their talents, I question the choice of this one and the presentation, beyond it being an ALW work.

Review: THE PROM at Keystone Theatrics At The Playhouse At Allenberry

One of the best aspects of this production, though, is the choreography by Brady Bennett. The choreography is carefully crafted to fit each character, emotion, and song, and the cast performs it with joy and precision. The Prom is an emotional and uplifting musical filled with hope.
