United Solo named Sir Ian McKellen as the winner of the 2020 United Solo Special Award. McKellen was awarded for his solo performance, “Ian McKellen on Stage: Tolkien, Shakespeare and You!”, which toured across the United Kingdom last year before coming to London’s West End for a limited run.

The United Solo Theatre Festival, the world’s largest solo performance festival, has announced their nominees for the 2020 United Solo Special Award: Laura Linney, Bellina Logan, Sir Ian McKellen, and Andrew Scott for their outstanding solo productions.

My Name Is Lucy Barton star Laura Linney, acclaimed performer Bellina Logan, acting legend Sir Ian McKellen, and Fleabag star Andrew Scott are among the nominees for the The United Solo Theatre Festival's 2020 United Solo Special Award.

United Solo has shared its commitment to fight for equality. The festival is actively working to engage its audiences and take part in educating one another on the human experience with stories from diverse backgrounds and cultures. 

The United Solo Theatre Festival, the largest solo performance festival in the world, just wrapped up its 10th anniversary season. This fall, in the heart of New York's theatre district at Theatre Row, United Solo hosted over 120 productions with performers from six continents. It was an exciting season that welcomed new and returning shows. Several shows were featured in the a?oeBest Ofa?? category, which presented returning shows from United Solo's first decade. With the conclusion of this year's festival, it was announced at the annual closing gala that, in addition to its regular season in New York City, United Solo will set its sights on a brand-new location: London.

United Solo Announces 10th-Season Winners and New Festival in London

The wait is finally over for the 10th anniversary of United Solo. With its most ambitious lineup yet, United Solo will once again unite solo performers from six continents in the heart of New York's theatre district. Over 130 productions will be presented at this year's United Solo, the largest festival of its kind in the world, celebrating its first decade of taking solo theatre to new heights. With up to five performances each day until November 24 at Theatre Row, this year's robust selection of one-person shows will attract thousands of theatregoers. Over 20 performances have sold out in advance, with more expected to follow. The festival will grant additional performance dates to its most popular productions. In addition to performances, United Solo also offers Master Classes with world-famous theatre creators and recognized experts, including acclaimed director Austin Pendleton, who will give his Master Class on October 8, with more Master Classes to follow.

After the immense success of her previous classes, United Solo is bringing back Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis to teach a series of 3 Master Classes on consecutive Fridays starting August 30, 2019 in New York City. This is a rare opportunity to work with Ms. Dukakis over the course of three weeks, developing one's acting skills and receiving her direct feedback. The class series, 'The Importance of Craft,' will teach students to identify and develop what is important to them as performers. Ms. Dukakis will explain how to approach the craft of acting as a personal connection to thoughts, actions, circumstances, and character, as expressed and defined by the text. 'My most important tools when I teach are my own sensibility, my personal perceptions, my knowledge of the craft, and the excitement and satisfaction I always feel with students,' said Ms. Dukakis.

Tickets are now on sale for the new season of United Solo, which celebrates its tenth anniversary with over 120 productions, presented every day between September 19 and November 24. The festival will take place at the newly renovated Theatre Row in the heart of New York's theatre district, which has been home to the festival since its inception. Throughout the past decade, the festival has presented more than 1,000 productions from six continents.

After a run of ten weeks that presented 130 one-person theatre productions from six continents, the world's largest solo theatre festival concluded its ninth season at Theatre Row on 42nd Street in New York by presenting this year's awards. On behalf of the United Solo Academy, Omar Sangare, the artistic director of the festival, presented the United Solo Special Award to Renee Taylor for her solo show "My Life on a Diet." In her acceptance speech, Ms. Taylor said: "I'm very grateful for receiving an award from Untied Solo - it's a very prestigious honor" and added "I'm very happy to be touring the country with 'My Life on a Diet' - and now I can say I am an award-winning show!"

United Solo will host a Master Class with Anne Bogart, internationally acclaimed director, author, and Head of the MFA in Directing Program at Columbia University. This Master Class is a unique opportunity to work with a legendary theatre artist. It will take place on November 5, 2018 from 6pm-8pm at Theatre Row in New York City.

Due to popular demand, United Solo brings back Olympia Dukakis to teach in the Master Class Series on September 16, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. The class, "The Importance of Craft," will teach students to identify and develop what is important to them as performers. United Solo will host Penny Cherns, Director of the MA in Classical Acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), to teach a Master Class as part of the United Solo Professional Training Program on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Theatre Row in New York City. This class, "Trusting the Text," investigates the ways in which the actor can mine, analyze, and explore the text to find a variety of personal resonance and character journeys.

United Solo Offers a New Master Class With Internationally Acclaimed Actor Allan Corduner, Currently Starring in "My Fair Lady" on Broadway This class with Allan Corduner, taking place on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 5:30pm, will provide an opportunity to explore voice technique for stage, screen, and voiceover. Participants will learn the basics of preparing for auditions, developing a character, and exploring vocal possibilities for audiobooks, radio, podcasts, and interviews.

United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, concluded its eighth season with a Gala at Theatre Row in New York. Throughout its ten-week run, the festival offered 120 stage productions, representing six continents, performed mostly in English, but also in Bulgarian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, and in the category of physical theatre through body language. Nearly 60 shows sold out, and were presented several times due to popular demand. Fiona Show called United Solo 'the mecca of the solo shows in the world.' This past season, the festival presented productions created by new talents, as well as show business veterans, including Oscar winner Milton Justice and Emmy winner Bill Oberst Jr. This year's festival also offered Master Classes led by Pau Aran Gimeno, a performer at Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; James Lecesne, an actor, activist, author of the screenplay for an Oscar-winning film; and Austin Pendleton, a renowned actor and director, and a recipient of the Drama Desk Special Award.
