The 62nd Annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Michael Urie, were held at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street) tonight, June 4th.

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, has announced additional casting for the 2017 season.

This past weekend, the cast of the hit off-Broadway show Spamilton celebrated their 300th performance. The critically acclaimed show has come a long way, with thanks to popular demand, from the 18-show engagement that was originally planned. Scroll down for a photo from the party!

Devoted to his wife, son, and parents; committed to raising money for worthy causes; a pop-singing child, a FIDDLER ON THE ROOF-dancing groom, and an endlessly versatile professional; author of Disney's latest girl-power anthem; Tweeter of endless kind words to his fans and the general public...how could Gerard Alessandrini, the impresario behind FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, hold him up for mockery, making 'Lin-Manuel as Hamilton' the subject of his latest spoof, SPAMILTON? Well, the monolith called HAMILTON has a life of its own, and with its well-deserved status as not just a Broadway sensation but an American cultural landmark comes an invitation to parody.

Earlier this morning, Laura Benanti (She Loves Me, Gypsy) and Javier Muñoz (Hamilton, In the Heights) announced the nominations for the 62nd Annual Drama Desk Awards.

We all know that February is Black History Month, but did we all take a moment to reflect and celebrate? Well we did just that, Broadway-style, at Sessions on February 23rd. Not only did we invite a starry roster of Broadway's best and brightest to share music representing the influence, importance and impact of African American legacy on Broadway, but we also paid homage to some Broadway trailblazers like Diahann Carroll, Ben Vereen, "Stokes" and more. We even challenged our audience to "name that African American Tony winner," which of course gave us the opportunity to bask in the glorious voices of Melba Moore, Hinton Battle, Heather Headley, Ted Ross, Jennifer Holiday and many more. "Spamilton," the critically acclaimed off-Broadway parody of Lin-Manuel Miranda's sensation, "Hamilton," begins previews tonight at the Royal George Theater (1641 N. Halsted).

DRG Records (Hugh Fordin, President) and Spamilton producers John Freedson, Christine Pedi, David Zippel, and Gerard Alessandrini announced that the Original Cast Recording of Spamilton, the critically acclaimed parody of Broadway smash Hamilton, by Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini, will be released on DRG Records tomorrow, March 3rd, 2017.

Tonight, February 23rd, Broadway Sessions will celebrate Black History Month focusing on African American themes, characters, music, moments and impact on musical theatre's past and present and future featuring a starry roster of Broadway veterans.

NewYorkRep and The Telling Company have announced casting for their upcoming staged reading of WEARING BLACK, the new musical featuring book, music and lyrics by Riley Thomas.

I had the pleasure of attending the 7th Annual Clive Barnes Awards on January 9, 2017 at the Walter Reade Theater of Lincoln Center. Last year, I also attended this ceremony, which supports artists from both the theater and dance worlds through financial gifts and accolades in memory of the indefatigable Mr. Barnes. Interestingly enough, I believe that having the privilege to be there again allowed me to see how much this foundation impacts the nominees and the winners.

The Clive Barnes Foundation announced today, Monday, January 9, 2017, that Khris Davis (The Royale) has won the Seventh Annual Clive Barnes Award for Theater and that Indiana Woodward (New York City Ballet) has won the Seventh Annual Clive Barnes Award for Dance.
