BWW Review: Tennessee Williams Theatre Company shows playwright's rarity, NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES
by Tara Bennett
- Dec 8, 2017
Running now until December 16, NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES is one of Williams' early works, written in 1938. The play's rough edges help to bridge our understanding of how an aspiring Thomas would later become known to the world as Tennessee. Such a rarity is this play that it was not produced until the 1990's after Vanessa Redgrave first heard of its existence, and then persisted in bringing it to the stage.
CAMINO REAL by Tennessee Williams Opens in New Orleans at the Marigny Opera House This July
by A.A. Cristi
- Jun 28, 2017
You've never seen Tennessee Williams like this before. From the characters to the setting, nothing compares to Camino Real. The play takes place in a mythic border town situated in the Southwest, or perhaps tucked just inside of Mexico, which sits in the shadow of a gargantuan border wall built to keep the bad hombres out-or is it built to keep the residents of the town in? This summer The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans will transport audiences to this sultry dreamscape at the glorious Marigny Opera House (725 St. Ferdinand Street) beginning in July and running through August.

The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans has done Williams canon and New Orleans audiences a tremendous favor by staging the play that was considered the starting point of Williams' decline.

BWW Review: THE ROSE TATTOO Rare Tennessee Williams Treat
by Tara Bennett
- Jul 27, 2016
The idea of a comedic play by Tennessee Williams might raise an eyebrow or two. Tennessee Williams? The same playwright who penned dark plays focusing on dysfunctional households as seen in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' and 'The Glass Menagerie?' That same Williams?
Tennessee Williams Theatre Company to Present THE ROSE TATTOO, 7/22-8/7
by Tyler Peterson
- Jun 21, 2016
Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans sets sail for uncharted territory in its second season, opening with The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams. The playwright's love letter to Italy was a Broadway blockbuster, winning a Tony Award for Best Play in 1951. Although its characters are mostly described as Sicilian, the play doesn't take place in the Mediterranean, but right here in the Gulf South! To realize the scope of this play and to engage the local and educational community, TWTC is partnering with Dillard University Theatre to collaborate on this production.

BWW Reviews: New Theatre Company Seduces with Tennessee Williams' KINGDOM OF EARTH
by Tara Bennett
- Aug 6, 2015
When an opportunity to see one of Tennessee Williams's more obscure works arises, I advise everyone to take advantage of seeing it. So when KINGDOM OF EARTH presented itself, I knew I was in for a treat. Selected as the inaugural production for the newly formed Tennessee Williams Theatre Company (TWTC), KINGDOM OF EARTH is rarely produced, but is gaining traction as a Southern Gothic drama. The melodrama, dark humor and grotesque beauty that can be found in the Williams canon is rife in KINGDOM OF EARTH, and the TWTC puts all of it on a wonderful display.
