Roundabout Announces Winners Of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series

Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University School of the Arts have announced the winners of Columbia@Roundabout's 2019 New Play Reading Series. As part of the collaborative partnership between Roundabout Theatre Company and Columbia University, the reading series awards three playwrights from the current MFA program and recent alumni with a cash prize as well as a reading in Roundabout's Rehearsal Hall, followed by a post-reading reception. Five finalists have also received cash prizes in recognition of their exceptional work. No other collaborative partnership in the New York area brings together an esteemed Ivy League MFA program with a Tony Award-winning, not-for-profit theatre. The reading series is made possible by a grant from The Tow Foundation.   

Berkeley Rep Welcomes New Fellows For the 2019-20 Season

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced today that 15 young professionals have been awarded fellowships for the 2019-20 season. Theatre graduates from universities across the nation apply for this program that provides a year-long deep dive into the operations of the award-winning theatre. Fellowships cover a variety of artistic and administrative disciplines and provide specialized training that assists fellows with embarking on a professional career in the arts. Additionally, fellows participate in career development seminars, build professional contacts, and even serve as mentors themselves for Berkeley Rep's annual Teen One-Acts Festival.

Cast Announced for NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY

Partial Comfort Productions (Samuel D. Hunter's A Bright New Boise, Robert O'Hara's Booty Candy, Thomas Bradshaw's The Bereaved) will present the World Premiere of NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY by Chad Beckim (pictured above). Directed by Shelley Butler, previews begin October 1 at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre at The A.R.T./New York Theatres. Opening night is slated for October 8.

Design-Focused 'in 1: the podcast' Welcomes Award-Winning Lighting Designer Isabella Byrd

The podcast is back from a long hiatus for (hopefully!) an all new batch of episodes. This week, we are sitting down with Lighting Designer and recent Obie Award winner Isabella Byrd. Isabella discuses with us the genesis of her design for 'The Light Shining in Buckinghamshire' and how that show helped catapult her into greater visibility. EN, sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council, running September 13-15 at Brooklyn's Triskelion Arts, 106 Calyer Street in Brooklyn reflects the deep connections we achieve in our lives - intentionally and unintentionally - positive and negative - for just one moment or for our entire lives.

Tickets Go On Sale Today For The New Group's CYRANO, Led by Peter Dinklage

The New Group presents Cyrano, with Ritchie Coster, Josh A. Dawson, Peter Dinklage, Hillary Fisher, Josh Franklin, Christopher Gurr, Blake Jenner, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Nehal Joshi, Grace McLean, Erika Olson and Scott Stangland. Cyrano, adapted by Erica Schmidt from Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, with Music by Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National, Lyrics by Matt Berninger of The National and Carin Besser, and Choreography by Jeff and Rick Kuperman, directed by Erica Schmidt, launches The New Group's 25th Anniversary Season. Previews begin October 11 in advance of an Official Opening Night on Thursday, November 7. A limited Off-Broadway engagement is set through November 24 at The Daryl Roth Theatre (101 East 15th Street).

Huntington Theatre Company Extends THE PURISTS

Huntington Theatre Company has announced the extension of The Purists. Due to high ticket demand, this new play about people with opposing viewpoints who choose to get along will now run at the South End/Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA from August 30 a?" October 6.

BWW Interview: Erik Patterson of HANDJOB at Echo Theatre Company

Erik Patterson has made a name for himself in the LA Theater community. A mentor to burgeoning playwrights and a stinging satirist who has racked up nominations and awards, such as the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Writing award for 2017's ONE OF THE NICE ONES, Patterson writes confrontational plays about that most rickety of life forms, humanity. Patterson's new play HANDJOB opens at Echo Theatre Company, directed by Chris Fields, and stars Steven Culp from Desperate Housewives and The West Wing.

Chicago Dancemakers Forum and The Nature Conservancy Partner For Series of Performances

Chicago Dancemakers Forum partners with The Nature Conservancy to present a series of original dance performances centered on stewardship and ecological exploration called Natural Encounters. Past Chicago Dancemakers Forum awardees Nejla Yatkin, Ayako Kato, Nico Rubio, and Erin Kilmurray will present immersive dance works at Indian Ridge Marsh, Hegewisch Marsh, and Big Marsh on the city's southeast side on Sept. 7 at 10:00 a.m., Sept. 21 at 4:00 p.m. and Oct. 5 at 4:00 p.m. These events are presented as part of the Chicago Park District's Night Out in the Parks program. All three events are free and open to the public.
