OPERA America is inviting artists, administrators, trustees, and audiences to 'A Toast to 50 Years,' a celebration of opera's progress and of OPERA America's 50th Anniversary, taking place today, Friday, May 15, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Here's a look at how 'Light Shall Lift Us; Singers Unite in Song' (for OPERA America), a video project featuring 107 opera singers in “a song of hope and solidarity” by Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell, came together to help raise up the spirits of their communities as we deal with COVID-19. It went 'live' on May 14 at 1:30 pm EST.

Long Beach Opera continues its popular new series of fundraisers called a?oeUnGalasa?? on February 15th with Dream Variation at the California African American Museum in L.A. The celebration features performances of works by composers of African descent throughout history, performed by some of opera's most exciting Black artists of today, followed by pairings of upscale comfort foods and fine wines.

The tale of Satan's fall from Heaven, as told in John Milton's Paradise Lost, has fascinated readers for centuries. In February 2020, audiences will have the opportunity to experience the timeless story in a powerful new way, when the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) presents Satan's Fall, composed by Stewart Copeland, former rock drummer and co-founder of the legendary post-punk band The Police.

The Central Park Five by Anthony Davis, a world premiere commissioned and presented by Long Beach Opera on June 15th, 22nd and 23rd, explores the interrogation and coerced confessions of five teenagers wrongly convicted of a crime in New York City in the 1980's. The opera details their stories, including the profound effect their unjust prison sentences had on their young lives.

This Spring marks the start of the 36th season of the Verdi Chorus, who will present their Spring Concert, L'Amore e la Vita (Love and Life) for two performances only at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica on April 6 and 7. Led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum, the Verdi Chorus is the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on the dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus. This program, which Ketchum humorously calls the Rom-Com of opera, will feature selections from two Verdi operas I vespri siciliani and Ernani, three Donizetti operas - Don Pasquale, La fille du r giment and L'elisir d'amore, as well as operatic sequences from Bizet's Les p cheurs de perles (The Pearl Fishers), Delibes' Lakm , and Puccini's La rondine.

Two of our guest soloists, Los Angeles Opera favorite Jamie Chamberlin and acclaimed tenor Nathan Granner, who are actually married in real life! In fact, Nathan proposed to Jamie onstage last fall at the conclusion of the Verdi Chorus 35th Anniversary concert!

Opera Santa Barbara (OSB) celebrates its 25thanniversary on Saturday evening January 26, 2019, with a GALA CONCERT and spectacular party honoring Marilyn Gilbert who co-founded the company with the late Nathan Rundlett. The event will begin with a champagne reception for all ticket holders before the 6:00 pm concert.

Henri Murger, the author of the original French book, described Bohemia as bordered on the North by hope, work, and gaiety, on the South by necessity and courage, and on the West and East by slander and the hospital. His characters, all based on real people he knew, wanted to free society of its strict bourgeois moral code and some of their ideas have taken root over the century and a half since the book's publication.

Long Beach Opera (LBO) presents the co-world premiere of 'The Invention of Morel,' by Stewart Copeland, co-founder and drummer of The Police, and the London-based actor, director and playwright Jonathan Moore, who also directs the production. LBO Artistic & General Director Andreas Mitisek conducts the opera.

On October 14, 20 and 22, Long Beach Opera (LBO) will present three performances of The Consul with music and libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti, and starring Patricia Racette, making her Long Beach Opera debut at the Centinela Valley Center for the Arts, Lawndale.

The renamed Charlottesville Opera's 40th summer season begins later this month with performances at The Paramount Theater of Verdi's tragic masterpiece, Rigoletto and Rodgers and Hammerstein's landmark musical, Oklahoma!.

Tulsa Opera opens its 68th season with a perennial audience favorite, Puccini's LA BOHÈME, this weekend, October 16 and 18 in the Chapman Music Hall of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
