The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has announced 10 Finalists for its prestigious playwriting award, now celebrating it's thirty-third year. The Houston-based Prize received the 2010 Theatre Communications Group's National Funder Award. The annual honor goes to a company, foundation or other entity for 'leadership and sustained national support of theater in America.'

With over 30 shows opening on DC area stages, there's lots to choose from for local theatregoers and visitors in February. There's a 'mash-up' festival, a puppet 'slam!', a Tom Stoppard play, the beginning of The Edward Albee Festival, and so much more! Broadway veteran Kevin Anderson leads the cast in the Los Angeles run of world premiere production of Neil LaBute's The Break of Noon. The Break of Noon, which is a co-production with MCC in New York, will feature Catherine Dent as well as Tracee Chimo and John Earl Jelks, who performed their roles in the New York portion of the run. Helmed by director Jo Bonney, The Break of Noon begins in previews on January 25, 2011 and officially opens February 2, 2011.

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director) has announced that STEPHANIE J. BLOCK, DANIEL BREAKER, KIMBERLY HÉBERT GREGORY, KEVIN ISOLA and KAREN OLIVO will star in the world premiere comedy, BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK, the new play by Lynn Nottage, directed by Jo Bonney. BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK is Ms. Nottage's first play to be produced in New York since she won the Pulitzer Prize for Ruined in 2009.

Snow Falling on Cedars, the acclaimed best-selling novel by David Guterson, comes to life this winter at Hartford Stage in a fresh adaptation by Kevin McKeon.

'In Their Place' is a three month season dedicated entirely to the voice of the female playwright. Running from March to June 2011 at the multi-award winning Finborough Theatre, the season celebrates the work of four inspirational women.

This fall, Berkeley Repertory Theatre welcomes THE GREAT GAME: AFGHANISTAN, a sweeping cycle of short scripts by 12 top playwrights that caused a sensation in London. Presented in three parts - on different days or in one impassioned marathon - this unprecedented show explores Afghanistan over the last 150 years. Produced with the Tricycle Theatre and supported by the British Council, THE GREAT GAME makes its West Coast premiere in the Roda Theatre. This limited run begins October 22 and must end November 7. The executive producers for this exclusive two-week engagement are Bill Falik and Diana Cohen and the Strauch Kuhlanjian Family. Meanwhile, the Tricycle - which has gained renown in Britain for presenting plays that examine contemporary issues and investigate cultural diversity - is hosting Berkeley Rep's production of Tiny Kushner.
