It was cold night in February as members of The GroovaLottos gathered in the 'BEAT LOUNGE' post-production suite at Polyphonic Studios, to listen to the playback on the mixed and mastered version of 'I Love Dem (BIG GIRLS)', the first single from their forthcoming re-mixtape, 'MAMA's HAMPER: Extra Phunky Remixes'.

It is a typical day at Polyphonic Studios. Chuck V is in the beat lounge working on a mix for a client, while ZYG 808 is in the control room at the boards, engineering a vocal session for Mwalim, as he adds backing vocals to 'DoYou Mind IfWeDanceWitYoDate?', a remix of the band's 2016 Indie Blues hit single.

Joining the Christmas song pantheon of such holiday favorites as 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' and 'Walking 'Round In Women's Underwear' is 'XMAS MORNING' the latest original by multi-Grammy nominated indie soul band, The GroovaLottos. Released on November 25, the song is already making a significant smash on Spotify, Apple Music & Youtube.

Soon to join the ranks of 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' as a quirky Christmas favorite is the new and original, 'Xmas Morning' by The GroovaLottos.

Young performers at the Belgrade Theatre are drawing inspiration from climate activists like Greta Thunberg with a brand new play developed on commission through the National Theatre's NT Connections project, which provides exciting opportunities for young people from across the country to perform in original plays.

Zion Union Heritage Museum and Oversoul Theatre Collective proudly present The HERITAGE LOUNGE a monthly Jazz & Soul Jam featuring an open mic for spoken-word artists; starting February 15th at 3pm, and happening the 2nd Saturday of each month until June, at the Zion Union Heritage Museum, 276 North St Hyannis, MA. The event is free for all ages with donations accepted.

'... About 26 years ago, I was in New York playing a gig at Nel's on 14thStreet. Late night, the 5 Train would stop running and you would have to catch a shuttle from 180thStreet, which ran really infrequently, so I decided to catch the 4 Train uptown to Gun Hill Road and walked down to the corner of Bainbridge and Gun Hill to catch the BX 28 (which used to be the BX 15). So here it was, about 3:00 in the morning and I'm standing across the street from Montefiore Hospital, watching a Black squirrel dart in and out of the sparse shrubs next to the building, when suddenly, an old man popped out from behind the parking garage, just behind the bus shelter where I was standing. The man was about 5'5', wearing slacks, a collared shirt, fall coat and a Totes hat. In his left hand, he carried two shopping bags stuffed with collard greens. There was something in the way he walked... a rather slew-footed stride, that told me he was from the islands.'

Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 3pm, Zion Union Heritage Museum will host a special performance of the piece 'BRONX JAZZ' by father and son duo, Mwalim and ZYG 808, followed by a special book and album signing of their respective upcoming releases. This event is free and open to the public.

Grammy nominated Hip-Hop Jazz Artist, The ZYG 808 will be the featured performer at the June 26th VerBaLizatIon, Boston's longest running spoken-word series and open mic. Verbalization takes place at the Fort Hill Bar & Grill, 2805 Washington St, Roxbury, MA 02119. Doors open at 6:30 pm for a 7pm show.

On Sunday afternoon, the Riverway Lobster House's main dining room was packed to capacity for the 42 Annual Joseph Daluz Unsung Hero Awards, as hosted by the Cape Cod Branch of the NAACP. Among those being honored was GroovaLottos drummer, Eddie Ray Johnson (Billie J Atkins, II) for his accomplishments and contributions to music as well as his dedicated mentoring work through Song Keepers, LTD.

Actor rehearsal, band rehearsals, re-writes, guest artist appearances to confirm, it looks a lot like theater in the lower level of the Governor Bradford Restaurant as Oversoul Theatre Collective gears up for it's summer run of 'The Soul Session' a musical theater piece written and directed by award-winning playwright and GroovaLottos keyboardist, Mwalim.

A new experiential musical by award-winning musician and playwright, Mwalim brings a taste of soul music and comic theater to Cape Cod. Marking the rebirth of Oversoul Theatre Collective, Cape Cod's first multi-ethnic theater company.

Oversoul Theatre Collective is celebrating it's 25th year as a theater company by becoming active in the local theater scene after seven year hiatus from production. Formed in Mashpee by a small group of native (Wampanoag, Nipmuc, Mohawk, and Siponi) and Black actors, with the motto 'Life's A Stage, Arts for All!', the company went on to introduce Mashpee's first youth theater workshop as well as monthly coffeehouse presentations of theater, comedy and music, and full productions of plays.

A MIXED MEDICINE BAG: Original Black Wampanoag Folklore, by Mwalim *7) has returned to publication and is available for purchase as a paperback and an ebook on amazon. The much sought after piece of multi-ethnic literature went out of print when the books publisher, Talking Drum Press, LTD folded in 2014. Mwalim's company, Liberation Multimedia, LLC obtained the rights to the book and re-released it this week on Amazon.
