Photo Flash: Porchlight Kicks Off Season With CHICAGO SINGS

Porchlight Music Theatre's 25th anniversary season began with the 14th Annual Chicago Sings concert: Chicago Sings 25 Years of Porchlight, Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m., at The Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave, directed by Christopher Pazdernik and Artistic Director Michael Weber with music direction by David Fiorello and a band featuring Kelsey Boltz, Cara Hartz, John McCreary, Greg Strauss, Celeste Park and Jake Saleh.

MOCA To Present South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to launch the fall season with the 2019 South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition. On view Sept. 5. to Oct. 20, 2019, this exhibition is made possible in cooperation with Miami-Dade County's Department of Cultural Affairs. MOCA has enlisted Amy Galpin, chief curator of the Frost Art Museum, to curate this dynamic exhibition which presents works by artists exclusively from South Florida who live and work in Broward, Martin-Monroe, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties.

Scottsdale Arts Festival Seeks Donations for Upcoming Exhibition

For 50 years, the Scottsdale Arts Festival has brought world-class art, live music and tasty eats to the heart of Old Town Scottsdale and is recognized as one of the top art fairs in the United States. To commemorate this milestone, the Festival is curating an exhibition in the ArtReach Space inside Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, on view Feb. 28 a?" March 15, 2020. 

Devendra Banhart Releases Song from Album MA

Devendra Banhart releases the third song from his forthcoming album Ma, 'Memorial,' today. The album will be released on September 13 on Nonesuch Records. A tribute to loved ones who have gone too soon, 'Memorial' explores the process of mourning. The intimacy of the recording, the sadness in Banhart's quivering vocals, and the beautiful melancholy of the lyrics showcase an artist attempting to understand death.

MCA Chicago to Spotlight Black Creativity This August

This August, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago presents three innovative performances celebrating black creativity in music and dance, from jazz and gospel to step and social dancing.

Theater Mitu Premieres HOUSE OR HOW TO LOSE AN ORCHARD IN 90 MINUTES OR LESS

Theater Mitu presents the world premiere of HOUSE or how to lose an orchard in 90 minutes or less. HOUSE is created and performed by collaborating artists Kayla Asbell, Denis Butkus,Aysan Celik, Alex Hawthorn, Justin Nestor, Scott Spahr, Corey Sullivan, Ada Westfall, and Isabella Uzcátegui. Directed by Rubén Polendo, HOUSE begins performances at MITU580 (580 Sackett St, Brooklyn, NY 11217) on Friday, August 23, for a limited run through Sunday, September 8, 2019.

2019 Chicago Artadia Awardees Announced

Artadia is thrilled to partner with Global Insurer, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and the artist LeRoy Neiman and Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation, Inc. for the two 2019 Chicago Artadia Awards. Both organizations have generously committed to supporting exceptional artists in Chicago, each with a named Award in the amount of $10,000 in unrestricted funds for the artist as well as access to the ongoing benefits of the Artadia Awards program. 

Squidsoup Returns to SMoCA, Making Canal Convergence Debut

Squidsoup, the artist studio behind the popular 2017 exhibition "Ocean of Light: Submergence" at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), is returning to the city with two new installations - one at SMoCA and one at the Scottsdale Waterfront for 2019 Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light.

Devendra Banhart Shares New Single ABRE LAS MANOS

Devendra Banhart releases the second song from his forthcoming album Ma, 'Abre Las Manos' - which translates to 'Open Your Hands' - today. The album will be released on September 13 on Nonesuch Records. Like many of the songs on Ma, 'Abre Las Manos,' which is sung in Spanish (English translation below), was inspired by Banhart's relationship with his motherland, Venezuela. Today's release is accompanied by a visual slideshow of amateur photographs taken from Flickr of Caracas and El Avila National Park in Venezuela that were licensed through Creative Commons.

Playwave Young People Peek Behind Sydney Theatre Company Curtains

This year, Playwave Experiences with Sydney Theatre Company will include not one, but two opportunities for young people to peek behind the curtain of STC's performances of Lord of the Flies and Cosi. The first will see Lighting Designer, Alexander Berlage, and Composer and Sound Designer, James Brown, in-conversation with STC's Resident Director, Jess Arthur, before the young people are handed the conch to ask what they have always wanted to know about this modern classic.

Anne Ellegood Named Next Executive Director Of The Institute Of Contemporary Art

The Board of Directors of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles announced today the appointment of Anne Ellegood as the museum's next executive director. Ellegood is currently the senior curator at the Hammer Museum. She succeeds Elsa Longhauser, who is stepping down from her position after 19 years of leadership and notably oversaw the museum's transformation from the Santa Monica Museum of Art (SMMoA) into the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA). Ellegood will assume her new role on September 16, 2019.

Ivy Baldwin Dance And Manitoga Present The Premiere Of QUARRY

On September 21 and 22, Ivy Baldwin Dance will present Quarry, a site-specific performance work at Manitoga, the former home and 75-acre woodland garden of the late American industrial designer Russel Wright. Quarry takes inspiration from Wright's desire to blur lines between outside and inside, nature and the man-made, and from his deep commitment to experimentation with form and material.

Porchlight Music Theatre Begins 25th Season With CHICAGO SINGS

Porchlight Music Theatre is proud to announce the 14th Annual Chicago Sings concert: Chicago Sings 25 Years of Porchlight, Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m., at The Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago Ave, directed by Christopher Pazdernik and Artistic Director Michael Weber with music direction by David Fiorello. Reception begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour and light appetizers. Performances, awards ceremony and paddle raising begins at 7 p.m. in the Edlis Neeson Theatre. Tickets are on sale for $125 at PorchlightMusicTheatre.org or by calling 773.777.9884. Tickets at the door will be $150. The event has reserved seating and supports Porchlight Music Theatre's educational and artistic programming.

Jazz At MOCA To Feature Tom McCormick Friday, 7/26

Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to present Tom McCormick as part of its monthly "Jazz at MOCA" series. McCormick is a gifted multi-instrumentalist in addition to being an accomplished composer and arranger. He blends the sounds of Latin, Brazilian and funk-infused music with smooth jazz for a performance full of energy.

KCRW HQ Summer Nights Announces Lineup Featuring Black Pumas, Y La Bamba, Andrew Bird, and More

KCRW announces today the talent line-up for the triumphant return of KCRW HQ - three, free, outdoors, and all-ages concerts in the plaza of KCRW's new home on Santa Monica College's state-of-the-art CMD Campus. This wildly popular series returns with the highly anticipated Los Angeles headline debut of Black Pumas on August 3, the seamless blend of indie pop, bluegrass and Mexican folk tradition of Y La Bamba on August 10, and the incomparable virtuoso Andrew Bird onAugust 17.
