Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami to Host Two Exhibitions During Miami Art Week 2019

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is proud to host two exhibitions showcasing women artists a?? late artist Alice Rahon's a?oePoetic Invocations,a?? and artist Cecilia Vicuña's a?oeCecilia Vicuña: About to Happena?? a?? during Miami Art Week in December. Both exhibitions will open on Tuesday, Nov. 26; remain on view during Miami Art Week, and run through Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Jazz At MOCA Will Feature Pianist Kiki Sanchez

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is presenting Afro-Peruvian producer, composer, arranger, educator and pianist Kiki Sanchez as part of its monthly a?oeJazz at MOCAa?? series on Friday, Nov. 29. Sanchez is among the new generation of young Afro-Peruvian Jazz musicians that are emerging on the national Jazz scene.

Sundance Institute Theatre Program: An All-Women Cohort To Convene At MASS MoCA Lab

Sundance Institute's Theatre Program will support three ambitious new works for the stage, and their four women creators, at this year's two-week Theatre Lab at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). The Lab, which runs from November 10 to November 24th, will feature the concentrated and abundant time and resources, including individual casting from a dedicated acting company and daily rehearsals, that has long been a signature of Sundance's Labs.

The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, announces the recipients of the tenth annual Winning Works Choreographic Competition: Chanel DaSilva, Tsai Hsi Hung, Pablo Sánchez (recipient of the inaugural Zach Lazar Winning Works Fellowship, named in honor of former Joffrey Board Chair Zach Lazar) and Durante Verzola.

MOCAD Presents 'Richard Prince: Portraits,' The First Museum Display Of The Artist's Portraiture Series

The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) presents the exhibition Richard Prince: Portraits. Richard Prince is an American artist of international recognition and best known for his use of appropriated imagery. Since the late 70s the artist has redefined concepts of authorship, ownership, and aura. Prince has employed a number of strategies to question the authorship, and ownership of artistic imagery. Using the 'electronic scissors' of photography, screenshots, scanner beds and other image capturing devices, Prince has throughout his career crafted techniques of appropriation and provocation. Richard Prince: Portraits subverts historical notions of portraiture through the transference from digital media to the canvas. Marking the first museum exhibition of the work and presented in MOCAD's largest gallery, these ninety-one works invoke the complex issues surrounding representation in the context of contemporary art.

Brown Arts Initiative And The Center For The Study Of Slavery And Justice Present Edouard Duval-Carrié Exhibition

The Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice (CSSJ) and the Brown Arts Initiative (BAI) at Brown University will showcase the work of internationally acclaimed Haitian American artist Edouard Duval-Carrié this fall. The exhibition of major works created since 2017 is curated by Anthony Bogues, CSSJ Director and Asa Messer Professor of Humanities and Critical Theory Professor of Africana Studies at Brown.

3Arts Awards Artists $25,000 Cash Grants

3Arts, the Chicago-based nonprofit grantmaking organization, is honored to award 20 Chicago artists with unrestricted grants at the 12th annual 3Arts Awards Celebration, taking place Monday, November 4 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The celebration will honor ten 3Arts Awards recipients with $25,000 cash grants, and ten additional artists with $2,000 cash grants through Make a Wavea?"an unprecedented artist-to-artist giving initiative in which each of the previous year's 3Arts awardees select another artist to receive a surprise grant, sending a a?oewavea?? of support through Chicago's cultural communities.

Programming Announced For Fifth Annual GRAND AVE ARTS: ALL ACCESS

Graffiti Artists Descend On The Mayfair Hotel To Paint Mural In Los Angeles

Internationally known and respected graffiti artists Kelly 'Risk' Graval and MEAR ONE recently descended on The Mayfair Hotel to paint Mucha-inspired 'Maiden of the Mayfair' mural on the side of the garage. This mural is a perfect collaboration between RISK's trademark abstract drip style and MEAR ONE's edgy surrealism. With the color wash backdrop, The Maiden of the Mayfair mural celebrates the romantic relationship between humanity and music drawing from the aesthetic origins of Hollywood cinema magic and The Mayfair's Art Deco design. The mural is a continuation of Alphonse Mucha inspired mural project with Punk Film s.r.o. that began earlier this summer.
