Pipeline Theatre Company has announced full casting for the world premiere of jazz concert-party-play hybrid Playing Hot, created by Kevin Armento (Balls) and Jaki Bradley (1969: The Second Man). Playing Hot is written by Armento and C.A. Johnson (Thirst), will be directed by Bradley, and will feature musical supervision by Marcus Miller. Playing Hot will begin previews at Theater 511 (511 West 54th Street) on April 18, 2019, and officially open on May 2, playing a limited engagement through May 12, 2019. Sacred Fools Theater Company is concluding its 22st season on a comically twisted note with the World Premiere of Tangerine Sunset, written by Peter Fluet and directed by JJ Mayes. Opening Friday, March 15 and running through April 13 on the Main Stage at the Broadwater Theater Complex, the hilariously bizarre comedy will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the American premiere of Life After, a rapturously beautiful and stirring new musical with book, music, and lyrics by Britta Johnson. The Globe's own Barry Edelstein directs, with choreography by Ann Yee. Life After will run March 22 - April 28, 2019 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run March 22-28.
Traverse City is now home to a state-of-the-art, outdoor performance venue showcasing northwest Michigan's only professional summer repertory theatre. The collaboration between Parallel 45 Theatre, Grand Traverse County Parks & Recreation, and Cornerstone Architects will create a permanent home for Parallel 45 Theatre's summer programming in Traverse City's Civic Center Park.
In February The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre presents Every Brilliant Thing, Duncan MacMillan's one-character play described by The Guardian as "one of the funniest plays you'll see about depression." Claire Marie Mannle inhabits the role - rarely performed by a female protagonist - of a young person determined to list every brilliant thing about life in an attempt to ward off her mother's suicidal tendencies. The play, performed in the round on the Scoundrel & Scamp's mainstage, is directed by Michelle Milne. The season runs February 7-24, 2019. Strawdog Theatre Company's Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Leda Hoffmann as the company's new Artistic Director and Charlotte Thomas as their new Managing Director. Hoffmann succeeds the 'Artistic Vision Committee,' Michael Dailey, Heath Hays and Anderson Lawfer, established in 2016 following the resignation of Artistic Director Hank Boland. Charlotte Thomas succeeds Managing Director Leah Barish, who stepped down in late 2018.
