World-renowned watchmaker Audemars Piguet partnered with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) and the Tony Awards today, to host more than 1,000 underserved New York City Public School Students at their very first Broadway show. Through 'Inspire Change,' an initiative launched by the producers of Memphis, students from 11 public schools throughout the 5 boroughs of Manhattan enjoyed this special performance of Memphis in addition to in-school workshops and a 'talk-back' with the cast and producers of the show and representatives from the Tony Awards.
Multiple Emmy award winner Edie Falco and Stephen Wallem, both currently starring in the Showtime series 'Nurse Jackie,' will team up for a brand new cabaret show at The Laurie Beechman Theatre. The Other Steve and Edie is scheduled for Feb. 4-6 at 7 PM.
Shoshana Bean, known for her roles in WICKED and HAIRSPRAY, has released a new single that she co-wrote with singer-composer-lyricist Scott Alan. The song is titled 'A Little Hope' and was originally written for the 2009 Broadway in South Africa benefit concert. 'A Little Hope' was arranged and orchestrated by Jesse Vargas, and is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Carney, the band that plays onstage for SPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Dark and whose lead singer, Reeve Carney, is the show's star, will open for U2 this summer. As per the band's website, 'Carney will be joining U2 for the last date of their epic 360° Tour alongside Arcade Fire at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 30th 2011'. Million Dollar Quartet, the hit Broadway musical, welcomes Kathie Lee Gifford to the cast for the encore performance of the January 26, Wednesday matinee. Gifford is best known for her 15-year run on the talk show Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, which she co-hosted with Regis Philbin. She currently co-hosts the Today Show on NBC.
Pop/rock musical, Gay Bride of Frankenstein which recently closed a successful out of town run is back in NYC for an industry concert reading at Joe's Pub on Tuesday, January 25 at 7:00 pm. The one night only concert reading stars Louis Hobson, who has played the role of Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine in Next to Normal since the musical's pre-Broadway engagement at Arena Stage in 2008. The concert will also feature the following cast members from the out of town run: Ashley Kate Adams (reprising her role from NYMF), Megan Kane, Wade Elkins, Derek Carley, Joshua Moore, Bradley Gale, Britt Mack and Maggie Politi. Directed by Igor Goldin and musically directed by Patrick Dorow. The book was written by Dane Leeman and Billy Butler and the music and lyrics were written by Billy Butler.
