Written as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded, Breathe follows five pairs of characters grappling with the virus’s impact on their lives, families, relationships, society, and health. Ranging from lighthearted to heartbreaking, unbelievable and all-too-real, these vignettes tackle everything from parenting in Covid, to Black Lives Matter protests, to saying goodbye to a spouse via Zoom.

Review: BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL at Desert Theatreworks

For folks of “a certain age” (which I am not telling if I do or do not fall into that category), prolific songwriter and performing artist Carole King provided what could be the official soundtrack to their adolescence.  For those who have not quite crossed that age threshold, you would be surprised how well her music has endured and firmly taken its place in the American songbook, speaking to multiple generations with songs of hope, love and all that comes after.

Review: BEN & IMO, Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon

Written by Mark Ravenhill and directed by Erica Whyman, Ben & Imo tells the story of the composition of Benjamin Britten’s (Samuel Barnett) Gloriana with musical assistant Imogen Holst (Victoria Yeates) over a period of nine months in the coast town of Aldeburgh. The play is based on Ravenhill’s BBC Radio 3 presentation, Imo and Ben.

FAR FROM THE TREE and LIGHTHOUSE Receive Richard Rodgers Awards

The two recipients have been announced for the 2024 Richard Rodgers Awards for Musical Theater, Far From The Tree and Lighthouse. Both winning musicals will receive funds toward their presentation at nonprofit theaters in New York City.
