A CHORUS LINE, the hit musical about dancers auditioning for a Broadway show played for 6,137 performances in its original run and, depending on who you ask, there are numerous reasons for that. First, and foremost, audiences connected with the people on stage and their experiences. They saw their own wishes and dreams played out through the diverse and talented group of people assembled. Authors Michael Morris and Dick Pirozzolo are decorated Vietnam veterans and freelance journalists. Morris served in the U.S. Army infantry in I Corps in 1967-68 and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat and returned home to launch an illustrative career as a journalist and editor with some of the nation's leading newspapers and magazines including USA Today.
Pirozzolo was an Air Force press officer in Saigon in 1970-71 and was awarded the Bronze Star for my service. Pirozzolo returned to Vietnam to play a prominent role in US-Vietnam reconciliation and remains active on the Editorial Board of Boston Global Forum, a think tank focused on peaceful solutions to world conflict, including tensions between China and Vietnam over disputed islands in the South China Sea.
