As a downtrodden teen clad in black while mournfully proclaiming that I, myself, am strange and unusual, the iconic Tim Burton film Beetlejuice was kept close to my dark heart. Eerily bizarre and chock full of campy yet raunchy humor, Beetlejuice didn't instill fear but rather brought delight in what is otherwise a morbid subject - death. Now, on the heels of the recently released Beetlejuce sequel, the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre welcomes the zany Beetle demon himself to shock and spook Toronto audiences.

Quinn VanAntwerp who plays Gordy says, “The first moment I read this script I knew it was probably the funniest show I'd ever read.” That was over five years ago. Since then, he’s been embedded in the development of Shucked, helping it grow from a quirky concept to a Broadway hit, and now touring across the country.

What happens if Juliet doesn’t die at the end of Romeo & Juliet? That’s the bold (and surprisingly heartwarming) premise behind & Juliet, now playing at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis through May 18. This energetic, genre-bending musical takes Shakespeare’s tragic heroine and gives her a second act—one where she gets to live, love, and belt out pop hits from the likes of Britney Spears, Katy Perry, and the Backstreet Boys.
With about a month left of its Hollywood run, BroadwayWorld sat down with John Skelley, who plays the adult Harry Potter in the show, to try and get the scoop on the show's secrets.
The “corniest” show ever to play on Broadway will soon make its way to Atlanta as part of the Regions Bank Broadway in Atlanta season. The show in question, SHUCKED, isn’t just corny because of its funny, punny humor, it is literally a show about corn.
The movie, Some Like It Hot, has long been a favorite of mine. As a kid growing up in Dayton and then Cincinnati, Ohio, I loved seeing Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon don women’s clothing, outrun the bad guys, and the line that Lemmon says, ‘now look what you did – you tore off one of my chests!’ struck me then and now as hilarious.
Just last month, Stranger Things: The First Shadow opened at the Marquis Theatre, turning Broadway upside down for a season full of mystery, illusion, and of course, demogorgons. Burke Swanson is along for the ride as 'James Hopper Jr.', the teenage counterpart to the character made famous by David Harbour on the Netflix series. Burke just checked in with BroadwayWorld to tell us all about his new gig and why he is living out his dream in one of the most buzzed-about new shows on Broadway.

In today’s culture, it is hard to find anyone who doesn’t have some experience with the story of Peter Pan. For many, their first exposure to the “boy who refused to grow up” was through Walt Disney’s classic 1953 animated film. Others first journeyed off to Neverland with Peter and Wendy by reading the original 1904 play by J.M. Barrie. And in between (and beyond) have come many different iterations of this timeless adventure. But for musical theatre fans, there is just one PETER PAN – the classic 1954 stage musical which starred Mary Martin and was captured for posterity through a 1955 NBC broadcast. So how does one take a story with its beautiful score but also some troublesome stereotypes and bring it to an audience in 2025? That is just what Larissa FastHorse and the team bringing PETER PAN to life on the stage at the fabulous Fox Theatre have done – taken a classic and updated it for a new generation. And in the role of Tiger Lily, Bailey Frankenberg has a front row seat to what makes this story so magical. I had the chance to catch up with Bailey and hear all about her career and what it is like to play an iconic (but updated) heroine as well as serve as Fight and Flight captain for the show.
Kristine Nielsen has made her name on Broadway playing roles in all kinds of comedies and dramas, but only a very few musicals. She’s changing that up this season, however, portraying Susan Proctor, an Actors’ Studio teacher and confidante to Ivy Lynn, a Broadway star preparing to play Marilyn Monroe, in the new musical comedy “Smash,” at New York’s Imperial Theatre.
