Westport Country Playhouse is postponing its 2020 season until spring 2021, due to the global pandemic. All programming will move to 2021, including the season's five main productions, Script in Hand Playreading series, Family Festivities presentations, and the New Works Initiative. This year would have marked the historic, professional theater's 90th season. Since its founding in 1931, the Playhouse has been closed for only four seasons, from 1942 through 1945, during World War II.

Westport Country Playhouse has named director, actor, and playwright Mark Shanahan as co-curator of the 2020 Script in Hand Playreading Series. He will collaborate with Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and current curator of the Series. The Playhouse's Script in Hand Series offers readings of dramas and comedies by professional actors using their skills to catapult the audience's imagination without benefit of scenery or costumes.

Westport Country Playhouse has been awarded a $50,000 Challenge Grant from Newman's Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. In conjunction with the Playhouse's year-end fundraising appeal, Newman's Own Foundation will match all annual fund gifts up to $50,000 through December 31, 2019.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of 'Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley,' the romantic comedy sequel to Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice,' by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, on Monday, December 16, at 7 p.m. The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. Tickets are $20 each.

Three playwrights present excerpts from holiday plays at a networking lunch sponsored by the CT Chapter of the League of Professional Theatre Women.

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of the comedy/drama, a?oeVisiting Mr. Greena?? by Jeff Baron, on Monday, November 18, at 7 p.m. The cast includes Tim Jerome as Mr. Green and Charles Socarides as Ross Gardiner. The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. Tickets are $20 each.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues its exciting 2019 Season with William Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet.' Directed by Ian Belknap, the show will be on the Madison stage from October 16 to November 17. Broadwayworld NJ had the opportunity to interview Belknap about his career and the upcoming show.

Lynn Nottage's powerful play, Mlima's Tale, which opened at the Westport Country Playhouse is a bit of a theatrical departure. It is an ensemble play that is not really character driven, but rather a linear narrative of the illegal poaching of elephants. Nevertheless, it is a must-see play for its informative story and superb performances.

Westport Country Playhouse stages the powerful, theatrical fable, “Mlima's Tale,” written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and directed by Playhouse artistic director Mark Lamos, from October 1 – 19.
