Art: What's all the talk about? The Artist Talk on Art series, 40+ years young

Art is a language. Foreign to many and understood by few, her language is subtle, self-referential, sublime and mercurial. Most agree a picture is worth a thousand words but which thousand and does that tell the full story? The Artists Talk on Art (ATOA) panel series is the longest on-going dialogue in the visual arts. Once upon a time it was a unique idea to have artists talk about their art. Today talks occur almost daily in NYC at Museums, galleries and on social media threads. To celebrate the legacy the ATOA has organized 'Going Postal' a postcard style fundraiser to help with costs associated with running the non-profit and the work and cost to deliver over 40 years of historical dialogues to the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art.

New Dark Comedy APPENDAGE to Play Theater for the New City

Costa Mesa Celebrates Artist Mark Kostabi

Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG) South Coast has partnered with the City of Costa Mesa to declare October 2016 as Mark Kostabi Month. Kostabi will be presented with a proclamation from Costa Mesa's Mayor Stephen Mensinger at 'Meet the Artist: Mark Kostabi.' Kostabi is a prominent figure from the New York 1984 East Village art scene. The public art reception will take place October 22, 2016, from 7-9PM. MLG South Coast is located at 3333 Bear Street, Suite 202, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. 'Why are the figures faceless? It's a universal language free of racial limitations, and a reflection of society's fear of individuality,' said Mark Kostabi, Artist. 'The MLG South Coast has been in business for over 40 years and self-proclaimed Mark Kostabi is a California State University Fullerton alumn with Southern California roots that we associate with as a local art business,' said Kenneth W. Lawrence, Gallery Director. 'The City of Costa Mesa residents are exposed to the fine taste of performing arts, yet, to celebrate the accomplishments of Mr. Mark Kostabi shall bring inspiration to the emerging visual artists,' said Stephen Mensinger, Mayor of Costa Mesa. 'Our Cultural Arts Committee works with City Council to bring art awareness to the residents in the City of the Arts.' Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG) is Orange County's premier Gallery of Fine Art in South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa. MLG specializes in original paintings, sculptures and limited editions by Warhol, Picasso, Chagall and many others. Appetizers will be provided by Irvine's Angelina's Pizzeria Napoletana. 'Our passion is to create artisanal meals that are authentic to Italy, so welcoming Mark Kostabi was a natural fit since he is part of Italy's art market,' said Sho Fusco, Angelina's proprietor. Wine will be supplied by Costa Mesa's art studio Inspired Art and Wine.
