Ed Asner and Hollywood Celebrities Set for Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention 9/19-21

Ed Asner is a television legend, the winner of seven acting Emmy Awards (which ties him with Mary Tyler Moore, both of whom rank second to their Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) co-star, Cloris Leachman who has nine). In all, he has been nominated 20 times for an Emmy Award, with 17 nods for a Primetime Emmy and three for a Daytime award. (All of his wins were for primetime.) As well as being one of the most outstanding and most respected actors of his generation, equally adept at comedy as he is at drama, Asner also made a name for himself as a trade unionist and a political activist. He served two terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild, from 1981-1985. Because of his busy schedule, Ed Asner rarely makes public appearances solely to meet and greet fans. From September 19 to 21, 2013, Asner will be among the celebrities at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention, devoting his time for fans of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Elf, Hawaii Five-O, Up and numerous other accomplishments. The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention is a three-day festival where television and movie lovers from around the world can gather to watch premiere screenings of rare motion-pictures and documentaries, meet and greet iconic Television and Hollywood actors, and learn more about the by-gone era of Hollywood cinema. BWW Reviews: Stunning Opening for Sustaining Sound Theatre Company

I am a huge fan of Louisa May Alcott's story of the March sisters and both films of Little Women, the one from the early 30s starring Katharine Hepburn and Joan Bennett and then the 1949 revival starring June Allyson, Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Leigh and Margaret O'Brien. I'm partial to the latter film, only because I love everyone in that cast, and it was in glorious technicolor. It also boasted Mary Astor as Marmee and Peter Lawford as Laurie.

Norman Lear will present The Southern California Motion Picture Council's (SCMPC) highest honor, the Golden Halo Award, to actress, comedienne and humanitarian, Ms. Geri Jewell, who shattered the glass ceiling for individuals with disabilities, when she was cast in the hit series 'The Facts of Life,' and then again in the HBO series 'Deadwood.' Among those scheduled to attend to honor Ms. Jewell, are Mickey Rooney, Ed Asner, June Faray, Rose Marie and Margaret O'Brien.

BWW Reviews: Colony Brings Religion into the Spotlight with THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION

For religious fanatics & theologians The Savannah Disputation should hold plenty of interest, as Evan Smith has written a smart exploration of Catholic versus Fundamentalist beliefs. Do you really know your faith inside out? Can you interpret the Bible with intelligence, keeping an open mind? Or do you accept tenets blindly, permitting them to govern everything you say and do? For those less religiously inclined or whose religion does not include Jesus, think twice before attending this play. But if you're into drama purely for its entertainment value, there is no dispute as to Savannah's remarkable four person cast, sharp direction by Cameron Watson and offbeat piquant humor.

Judy Garland Lost Easter Special is a Treat for Peter Mac Fans

This is my 7th Peter Mac show since August. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of the man and his talent, which must be experienced up close to be fully appreciated. He is the current master tribute artist, making Garland totally his own. As Margaret O'Brien herself said, it's like an evening up close and 'personal with Judy Garland', and Mac gives so very much of himself to the singing and banter, that it's uncannily infectious. He could read/sing the phone book, and that would be OK too, as audiences will listen. Once a Peter Mac fan, you are hooked, baby! This show Judy Garland's Lost Easter Special with special guests DJ Schaefer as Bea Arthur, Alissa Cote as Lorna Luft, Glory Gale as Liza Minnelli and David Marker as Joey Luft, very similar to the Christmas Special in December at the Gardenia, is a lot of uproarious fun, obviously because it takes liberties in its originality and in not copying an actual special. But it's every bit as spontaneous, warm and loving as Garland's own family-oriented program.
