BWW Review: PINOCCHIO, National Theatre

The puppet who wants to be a real boy is all grown up in this new musical version - very much the darker side of Disney. Book writer Dennis Kelly went back to the original 19th-century Italian tale, by Collodi, and tonally, John Tiffany's production leans more towards that incarnation: a Pinocchio recognisably in the tradition of grim Grimms' Fairy Tales.

BWW Review: THE JUNGLE BOOK, Royal and Derngate

My first ever Christmas theatre experience was in the Royal Theatre in Northampton - back when they had a celebrity panto in the Derngate and a traditional panto in the Royal.

BWW Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Old Vic

There are many reasons why Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol has been adapted endlessly. A cautionary tale of debt, ghosts, meanness of spirit and salvation set in a snowy Victorian Christmas is irresistible to directors and theatregoers alike. This year the Old Vic has taken up the baton with Matthew Warchus' traditional and utterly charming take on the festive classic.

BWW Review: THE SLAVES OF SOLITUDE, Hampstead Theatre

We're back in the world of ration books, blackouts and spam fritters, as Nicholas Wright delves into the home front via his adaptation of Patrick Hamilton's 1947 novel. Though there's a certain period chintz about Jonathan Kent's production, darker undercurrents make this a more complex proposition than it first appears.

BWW Review: YOUNG MARX, Bridge Theatre

Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr's enterprise is certainly an historic one: The Bridge is London's first new wholly commercial theatre in 80 years. If its opening play isn't the same landmark work, it's nevertheless an auspicious start to a promising enterprise.

Photo Flash: It's Alive! See YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN in the West End

Mel Brooks' quirky musical Young Frankenstein is making its West End premiere at London's Garrick Theatre. Based on the 1974 Oscar-nominated film co-written with Thomas Meehan and starring Gene Wilder, the brand new production follows a Broadway run that closed in 2009. Check out a first look at the show below!

BWW Interview: Fenella Woolgar Talks THE SLAVES OF SOLITUDE

Actress Fenella Woolgar's work ranges from Handbagged and Circle Mirror Transformation to Home Fires and Doctor Who. She's currently starring in the stage adaptation of Patrick Hamilton's The Slaves of Solitude, about a boarding house in 1943 Henley-on-Thames, where Miss Roach, who endures daily torment from a fellow occupant, becomes involved with an American serviceman. The play is now in previews at Hampstead Theatre.

BWW Review: DR. SEUSS'S THE LORAX, Old Vic

After a successful run in 2015/16, leading to an Olivier Award nomination, David Greig's stage adaptation of the Dr. Seuss tale is back at the Old Vic for a three-week run prior to a North American tour. Music and lyrics come from singer-songwriter Charlie Fink (recently seen at the same theatre with his own show, Cover My Tracks), with direction from Max Webster and choreography from the irrepressible Drew McOnie.

The line up includes productions of TWELFTH NIGHT, PETER PAN, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, both parts of ANGELS IN AMERICA, OBSESSION and AMADEUS.

Breaking News: HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD Will Apparate to Australia

Sonia Friedman, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, have today confirmed the record-breaking production will open in early 2019 in Melbourne, Australia, exclusively and only at Melbourne's Princess Theatre.

BWW Review: THE LADY FROM THE SEA, Donmar Warehouse

Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea surfaces onto the Donmar stage, directed by soon-to-be Young Vic Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah and with a magnetic central performance from Nikki Amuka-Bird.
