Red Bull Theater today announced the selections for The 2021 Short New Play Festival, their eleventh annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes, featuring six brand new plays that have been selected from hundreds of open submissions from playwrights across the country, and more.

Tamilla Woodard has been appointed Chair of the Acting Department at Yale School of Drama and Resident Director at Yale Repertory Theatre. She will be working part-time this spring to prepare for the upcoming academic year; her five-year term begins officially on July 1, 2021. 

With one year in the pandemic down, theatre is beginning to reemerge. One particular theatre, the Manhattan Class Company (MCC), has recently announced the return of their annual concert “Miscast”.

Six brand new plays, inspired by this year’s theme: “Restoration,” will be selected through an open submission process to premiere alongside commissions from C. A. Johnson and José Rivera.

MCC THEATER announced that their live benefit reading of Peter Hedges' Good As New directed by the author, and starring JULIANNE MOORE and KAITLYN DEVER which was broadcast on Thursday evening, will be available for rental through Sunday, July 19th at 11:59 pm. EST.

MCC Theater announced today a special benefit reading and discussion with the artists of Peter Hedges' Good As New starring Julianne Moore and Kaitlyn Dever, directed by the author, to be presented on MCC's YouTube channel on Thursday, July 16 at 7:00 PM EST.

Tedra Millan (The Wolves, Present Laughter), will star in an industry reading of Late Summer Scenes by emerging playwright David Glass (Experimental Design for Biologists), and directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Theresa Rebeck's Downstairs, Hatef**k) on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Open Jar Studios (1601 Broadway).

INTAR today announced the cast for the World Premiere of Julio Down by the Schoolyard, a new play by J. Julian Christopher, directed by Lou Moreno.Julio Down by the Schoolyard will play a special limited Off-Broadway engagement during World Pride/Stonewall 50, three performances only: Thursday June 27th, Friday June 28th, and Saturday June 29th all at 7pm.

Hartford Stage announced today the last two plays of the 56th season. Incoming Hartford Stage Artistic Director Melia Bensussenwill stage the Eugene O'Neill coming-of-age comedy Ah, Wilderness! It will be Bensussen's first production as Artistic Director at Hartford Stage. Former Hartford Stage Artistic Director Michael Wilson will return to direct the original play that inspired the Oscar-winning film The King's Speech, written by its Oscar-winning screenwriter David Seidler.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world premiere of Tazewell Thompson's inspirational a cappella music infused play, Jubilee. Inspired by the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, this uplifting new work chronicles the bold African American ensemble as they travel the world, captivating kings, queens and audiences with hymns and spiritual songs supported by their rich voices. Written and directed by Thompson with vocal arrangements and music direction by Dianne Adams McDowell, Jubilee runs April 26 - June 2, 2019 in the Kreeger Theater.

David R. Jimenez, President of the Board of Directors of Hartford Stage, announces that OBIE Award-winning director Melia Bensussen has been named the next Artistic Director of the Tony Award-winning theatre. She will assume the role in June.

Latino Theatre Projects (LTP) and Producing Artistic Director Fernando Luna, in association with Theatre Off Jackson, will present the Pacific Northwest premiere of Brainpeople by prize-winning Puerto Rican playwright Jose Rivera. Brainpeople will be directed by LTP's Producing Artistic Director Fernando Luna. The production will be presented Thursday-Today evenings, October 11 through November 3, 2018 at 8:00 pm. Performances will be bilingual in English with some Spanish phrases. General admission is $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Seniors and students are $20.
