Special Offer: WHERE WE BELONG Journeys to The Public

This month, Seattle Rep is bringing an assortment of opportunities to the public, including the final performances of its season opening production, Where We Belong, and subsequent special events including a Lushootseed Language Event on October 3 and Teen Night on October 9.

During A RAISIN IN THE SUN’s preview performances through Opening Night, theatergoers will be able to visit To Sit A While, a statue of Lorraine Hansberry by sculptor Alison Saar, at Astor Place.

The Public Theater and Elevator Repair Service will begin previews for the New York premiere production of BALDWIN AND BUCKLEY AT CAMBRIDGE with a Joseph Papp Free Performance on Saturday, September 24 in the Anspacher Theater.

The history of colonization of indigenous lands in this country and other countries is a sensitive subject that many shy away from. But then to look at it from the viewpoint of those that have been displaced goes a long way to recognizing the issues and keep them from continuing. Madeline Sayet and her amazing play “Where We Belong”, currently playing at the Seattle Rep gives a wonderful insight into this topic and specifically her viewpoint and how it affected her and her Mohegan culture.

Long Wharf Theatre announced today additional details for fall programming at 222 Sargent Drive as part of Act 1 of its 2022-2023 season. Dignity, Always Dignity will be presented on September 10 and 11, while performances for Jelly’s Last Jam will take place on September 17 and 18.

The Public Theater has announced complete casting for the world premiere of PLAYS FOR THE PLAGUE YEAR, written by and featuring Pulitzer Prize winner and Public Theater Writer-in-Residence Suzan-Lori Parks and directed by Bessie Award winner Niegel Smith. 

The 2022-2023 Writing Fellows Are Andrea Ambam, Alyssa Haddad-Chin, Jesse Jae Hoon, and Alex Lin; 2022-2023 Scratchpad Playwrights Are Anamaria Guerzon, Ankita Raturi, and Christopher Washington; 2022-2023 Native American Artist Lab Participants Are Sean-Joseph Choo and Moki Bear Eagle.

The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company has announced its lineup for the 2022–2023 performing arts season.  The FAC will produce a season of diverse and exciting programs including, “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” for the holiday season and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights” next spring.

Recognizing a strong return to the spotlight over the 2021-2022 Equity theater season, the Joseph Jefferson Awards in Chicago announced its nominations for theater excellence. This year’s nominees include 201 theater artists across 38 categories of excellence in theater production among shows from 43 companies.

The Joseph Jefferson Awards have announced this year's Equity nominations, including 201 theater artists across 38 categories.  The 54th anniversary Equity Jeff Awards will take place October 17, 2022, at Drury Lane in Oakbrook, IL. 

The Public Theater has announced casting for the upcoming revival of A RAISIN IN THE SUN written by Lorraine Hansberry and directed by Tony Award nominee Robert O’Hara. The cast of A RAISIN IN THE SUN will include Francois Battiste (Walter Lee Younger), Tonya Pinkins (Lena Younger), and more.

The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (Davis McCallum, Artistic Director) presents the touring production of Where We Belong by Madeline Sayet, directed by Mei Ann Teo and produced with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, in association with Folger Shakespeare Library. Where We Belong began performances on Saturday, August 13 and will run through Monday, August 22. Vineyard Theatre has announced the company’s upcoming 40th Anniversary Season which will include three world-premiere productions. Kicking off the season will be David Cale’s Sandra, which reunites Cale and director Leigh Silverman following the acclaimed Harry Clarke, which premiered at the Vineyard in 2017.

Seattle Rep announced complete casting and the single ticket on sale date for their season opening production of playwright Madeline Sayet’s, Where We Belong.

What did our critic think of WHERE WE BELONG at Goodman Theatre? Madeline Sayet proves herself to be a powerful and magnetic storyteller in her one-woman play WHERE WE BELONG. Sayet has structured her text so the story becomes more personal and poetic as it progresses, and under the direction of Mei Ann Teo, she delivers her testimony to the audience in a compelling and dynamic manner. 

Vineyard Theatre has announced that Lessons in Survival: 1971 will resume performances on Wednesday, June 15 with Reggie D. White temporarily stepping into the role of James Baldwin. White is a co-conceiver of the show as one of the members of The Commissary and the Vineyard Theatre's 2022-2023 Colman Domingo Award recipient.

Due to positive COVID test results within the company, Vineyard Theatre has cancelled performances of Lessons in Survival: 1971 through Sunday, June 12. Ticket holders for impacted performances (June 10-12) will be contacted by phone and email regarding rebooking and next steps.
