Inspired by the writings of radical feminist philosopher and theologian Mary Daly, #GetGandhi - A Seriously Radical Feminist Comedy Is a world premiere, multi-character play written by award-winning playwright and actor Anne Galjour focusing on Mahatma Gandhi's infamous experiments in brahmacharya, or celibacy. Gandhi would have a young woman disrobe and sleep with him completely naked as a test to prove his seminal continence and his purity of spirit. Gandhi never saw anything wrong with this practice, but a small coven of old school bra-burning San Francisco feminists do. They plot to avenge these sex crimes. They set out for the Gandhi memorial statue, located on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, to rip it from its base, and drag it up Market Street in the middle of the night.

I AM A SEAGULL, a new film directed by Brian Mertes, will have its world premiere at the Fourth Annual Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre and Performance (FTP) on Friday, March 2 at 6:30 PM. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will take place at The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at Elebash Recital Hall at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street). The Arctic Group has commissioned playwright Daniel Talbott (Slipping and Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, America, Kuwait) to write a new short play that will be performed on a double bill with Steve McMahon's Sad Indie Love Song in Series B of their inaugural FRIDGE Festival. The festival runs August 31 - September 10, and Series B will play Thu 8/31 at 9pm, Sun 9/3 at 7pm, Wed 9/6 9pm, and Sat 9/9 at 7pm.
As America's great playwrights go, Horton Foote, who passed on in 2009, just shy of his 93rd birthday, was perhaps the most understated of them all. In a prolific career that involved golden age television dramas, Academy Award winning screenplays and dozens of stage works, his favorite source of inspiration was the relatives and neighbors he observed growing up in the quiet comfort of East Texas.
???????Horton Foote's The Traveling Lady, directed by Austin Pendleton, opened on June 22 and was originally set to run through July 16, 2017, has been extended and will now run through July 30, 2017 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.).
