Luna Stage will present the World Premiere of THE GROUND ON WHICH WE STAND, a multi-writer, site-specific performance exploring the history and impact of The James Howe House from 1780 to present day. The Howe House is the first property in the Township of Montclair to be owned by an African American and formerly enslaved person, and has been the site of much current controversy.

On February 16, Luna Stage presented its first-ever matinee for older adults, a performance of Nikkole Salter's searing historical drama Torn Asunder.

Luna Stage has announced Opening Doors, a new initiative to provide artists in the Valley Neighborhood with cost-free access to the professional theatre's spaces, resources, and staff. The program is sponsored by Valley National Bank.

Luna Stage will present the World Premiere of Zachary Elkind's new adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard II Oct 20-Nov 13 on the MainStage. Streamlined to a fleet 90 minutes, the play features four actors playing 16 roles, and highlights the humor and urgency of this taut, intimate, heartbreakingly political tragedy.

A stage reading of Tennyson Bardwell's new play Glass Houses will be held at The Players Theatre on June 21st on 115 MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village at 7pm.

For the third year in a row, Luna Stage has announced that all its summer camps will be Pay-What-You-Choose to ensure that all young people have access to fun, creativity, and high-caliber arts education.

Luna Stage will reopen its MainStage with Bernardo Cubría's comedy The Giant Void In My Soul, directed by Rajesh Bose and starring Jesse Castellanos, Darin F. Earl II, John P. Keller and Valerie Terranova.

ENSEMBLE STUDIO THEATRE along with The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have announced the lineup for the 2022 First Light Festival, part of the EST/Sloan Project to develop plays exploring science and technology.  

Luna Stage will reopen for in-person performances on their MainStage on March 11th, exactly two years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the temporary closure of their building. The first event in the main space of the professional regional theatre will be a reading of long-term collaborator Nikkole Salter's play Torn Asunder on March 11th and 12th at 8pm, followed by a conversation with the playwright.

Pushcart Players artistic director, Paul Whelihan will be performing the role of Mr. Mushnik in the Short North Stage production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” This sci-fi, cult-hit musical comedy will play from March 17 through April 16 at the Garden Theater in Columbus, OH.

In response to Essex County's current high COVID numbers, Luna Stage has made the decision to reschedule its in-person production of #RIFT Part 2: The Live Experience by Gabriel Jason Dean. Originally slated for February, #RIFT Part 2 will now take place in April. In January and February, Luna will launch additional cycles of #RIFT Part 1: A Play Over Text Message. Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has named current Kean University student Jennifer Pillaga (Class of ’22) and alumnus Elaine Insinnia (Class of ‘68 ) as the winners of the 2022 Bauer Boucher Playwriting Awards, named for longtime donors W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher.

THE ROAD THEATRE COMPANY has announced its return to live performances with three plays performing in repertory. THE PLAY YOU WANT, written by Bernardo Cubria and directed by Michael John Garcés, will begin previews on Tuesday, February 8; will open on Friday, February 11 at 8pm and run through Sunday, March 27.
