This year's Tony Award nominations feature a rarity: a Best Play category comprised of as many women as men. Surrounding Paul Vogel's INDECENT and Lynn Nottage's SWEAT, however, is a profusion of male-written work; of the Best Musical nominees, only one so much as includes a woman on its writing team (Irene Sankoff, COME FROM AWAY).
Alan Gilbert Conducts Final Weeks with the NY Philharmonic

Music Director Alan Gilbert begins his final weeks by leading the New York Philharmonic in Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The program juxtaposes the tragedy and optimism of human experience through Schoenberg's depiction of the horror of the Holocaust and the message of hope, brotherhood, and joy in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw will feature Gabriel Ebert as narrator (in his Philharmonic debut) and the men of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will feature soprano Camilla Tilling, mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack (debut), tenor Joseph Kaiser (debut), bass-baritone Eric Owens, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. The performances will take place Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented without intermission.

Suzanna Ross will be singing a collection of songs that includes American jazz, French classics, a few pop tunes of the 60s and 70s, and some movie favorites. Songs are from the lists of Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Diana Krall, Sting, Michel LeGrand, Edith Piaf, Lucienne Delyle, Francoise Hardy, and more. Suzanna has performed in Manhattan at TOMI Jazz Club, Cafe Noctambulo/Pangea, and Mondays at Kitano Hotel's Jazz Club. She has also performed at cultural venues including the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning.

Andrew Upton's new adaptation for Sydney Theatre Company of the 1907 French farce, A Flea in Her Ear by Georges Feydeau, is realised in all its clockwork-precision by the creative team behind STC's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead: director Simon Phillips, designer Gabriela Tylesova and lighting designer Nick Schlieper. Performances are at the Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House from 31 October to 17 December (opening 4 November 2016).
