BroadwayWorld is deeply saddened to report the passing of Broadway icon Chita Rivera, who, as shared by her beloved daughter Lisa Mordente, died peacefully on January 30, 2024 in New York after a brief illness. 

The 2024 Chita Rivera Awards will take place on Monday, May 20 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Learn more about the awards ceremony here!

The Loukoumi Foundation will honor Chita Rivera at a benefit event at Bond 45, in which she will accept the foundation's first Make a Difference ICON Award.

Winners for the 2023 Chita Rivera Awards were announced this evening. In keeping with the mission of the Chita Rivera Awards, nominators considered outstanding choreography, featured dancers, and ensembles in shows on Broadway and Off Broadway, as well as outstanding choreography in film that opened during the 2022-2023 season.

“CASHINO,” the long-running LA and NYC cult hit made it’s debut at Birdland for one night only on Monday, April 3. Susie Mosher (Hairspray and host of Birdland’s “The Lineup”) and recording artist John Boswell starred as Pepper Cole and Johnny Niagra in the special concert version of the critically acclaimed multimedia musical show.
