Artistic Director Jayme Kilburn has announced the lineup for the Station North Arts & Entertainment District-based Strand Theater's upcoming fourth season. The scrappy company was recently named one of Charm City's 'Top 5 Theaters' by Baltimore magazine. The Baltimore premiere of Lisa D'Amour's lyrical fairytale play with music, Anna Bella Eema, kicks things off with a three-week run under Kilburn's direction, October 7-22, 2011.
Anna Bella Eema would be a terribly depressing story were it not infused with such intense, infectious energy-so much so that it tumbles off the thrust stage and threatens to swallow whole the tiny, black-box space that's home to the Strand Theater Co. This energy is wild, untamed and mildly spiritual, a perfect echo of the characters that Obie Award-winning playwright Lisa D'Amour has so carefully crafted, exploring the murky corners of their personalities by allowing them to narrate their own obscure histories.

Based on true events, ORSON'S SHADOW is an ingenious tale of two Hollywood giants-Orson Welles and Laurence Olivier. The time is 1960; the place is a West End theatre. Legendary critic Kenneth Tynan has made a startling proposal: Welles should direct Olivier and the young Joan Plowright in Rhinoceros, Ionesco's absurdist masterpiece. But it is the rehearsal process that brims with absurdity as titanic personalities, including Vivien Leigh, wrestle the muse in this witty and incisive depiction of the drama of theatre.
