TAMBURLAINE, PARTS I and II Opens this Sunday at Theatre for a New Audience

Christopher Marlowe's 1587 epic Tamburlaine, Parts I and II, edited and directed by Olivier Award-winner Michael Boyd and starring John Douglas Thompson, opens Sunday, November 16, at 1:00pm at Theatre for a New Audience, Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place.

Bernard Rands with Anthony Roth Costanzo, ICE and NY Premiere of FOLK SONGS Set for the Miller Theatre Tonight

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts continues the 2014-15 Composer Portraits series with Bernard Rands. The 80th Birthday tribute features Anthony Roth Costanzo, countertenor, the International Contemporary Ensemble - Christian Knapp, conductor, and the New York premiere of Rands' FOLK SONGS (2014) tonight, November 13, 2014 at 8 pm at the Miller Theatre at Columbia University (2960 Broadway at 116th Street).

American Opera Projects and Adelphi University to Present New Opera INDEPENDENCE EVE

(American Opera Projects) and Adelphi University present Independence Eve, a new chamber opera in three scenes that explores the troubled journey of race relations in America. The concert performances will take place on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30PM at the Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center at Adelphi University (1 South Ave, Garden City, NY 11530), with a second performance on Saturday, November 15 at 8PM in the Great Room at AOP's South Oxford Space (138 S Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217). Composed by Sidney Marquez Boquiren with a libretto by Daniel Neer, the opera will include performances by baritone Jorell Williams, and tenor Brandon Snook. Damian Norfleet will act as stage director, while Mila Henry will provide music direction and piano.

IF COLORADO HAD AN OCEAN Begins 12/4 at La MaMa

La MaMa presents the World Premiere of IF COLORADO HAD AN OCEAN… by Mike Gorman. Directed by David Bennett, previews begin December 4 with opening night slated for Thursday, December 11, 2014.

Theatre for a New Audience Presents TAMBURLAINE, PARTS I AND II, Beginning Tonight

John Douglas Thompson will lead a company of 19 actors playing 60 roles in the first major New York production since Broadway 1956 of Christopher Marlowe's 1587 epic Tamburlaine, Parts I and II, Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director of Theatre for a New Audience, announced. Directed and edited by Olivier Award-winner Michael Boyd, former Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Marlowe's two-part drama will be performed as one 3.5-hour play, plus a 30-minute intermission.

World Premiere of Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca's ANTIGONA Set for UW World Series This Weekend

In October, the UW World Series will present the world premiere of Antigona, a new work by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca. Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is one of the most authentic flamenco companies in the world today, and Soledad Barrio is its star. Now, in a unique creative partnership, this remarkable company joins with acclaimed American theater director Lee Breuer to create a new work, Antigona, based on Sophocles' ancient Greek heroine. Combining live music, song, and dance, Noche Flamenca's Antigona will bring the fiery, expressive nature of flamenco to one of the world's great tragedies in an evening-length work that promises to be both gripping and intensely moving. The work is conceived and directed by Martin Santangelo with choreography by Soledad Barrio, consulting direction by Lee Breuer, and visual and mask design by Mary Frank.

Roulette Presents INTERPRETATIONS, Featuring John King's FREE PALESTINE and More, Tonight

Roulette presents Interpretations featuring selections from John King's Free Palestine, with A Secret Quartet (Cornelius Dufallo, Jennifer Choi, violins; Lev Zhurbin, viola; Yves Dharamraj, cello). Using materials derived from the Arabic systems of pitch and rhythm, maqam'at and iqa'at, each particular composition uses indeterminacy and improvisation to organize sound and time, thereby providing energetic and visceral motifs encompassing the full range of expression possible from a string quartet.

Basil Twist's THE RITE OF SPRING Premieres Tonight at Lincoln Center

The director/designer and master puppeteer Basil Twist, whose numerous works for the stage - including SYMPHONIE FANTASTIQUE, PETRUSHKA, DOGUGAESHI and ARIAS WITH A TWIST -- have consistently re-defined our understanding of traditional puppetry, will celebrate the New York debut of his biggest, most ambitious creation to date when Lincoln Center presents THE RITE OF SPRING during its fifth season of WHITE LIGHT FESTIVAL for five performances only tonight, October 15-18 at the Rose Theatre in Frederick Rose Hall, located in the Time-Warner Center (10 Columbus Circle) at Broadway and 60th Street.
