At inauguration events for its new, 12-story, $200 million Ute and William K. Jr., Bowes Center for Performing Arts in the city's Civic Center, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music announced today a new collaboration with Aquila Theatre to workshop and present a special production of the company's new adaptation of The Great Gatsby featuring music composed by students from the SFCM Technology and Applied Composition program and recorded by those studying Chamber Music and Roots, Jazz, and American Music.

One of the songs from the project, 'Pura Vida', particularly caught my attention. It is about environmental preservation and nature. Pura Vida literally means 'pure life', but in Costa Rica it's like a motto; it's an expression used in almost every conversation. It means that everything is fine, but it can also mean thank you. When I first listened to the song I wondered if Jonathan Larson had ever been to Costa Rica. How did he come up with the phrase?

Last night, Netflix hosted the World Premiere of tick, tick...BOOM! with cast members Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, Robin de Jesús, Joshua Henry, Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens, and director Lin-Manuel Miranda. tick, tick…BOOM!, is an adaptation of the musical by Jonathan Larson, who revolutionized theater as the creator of Rent.

The new film adaptation of tick, tick...BOOM! had its world premiere at AFI Fest on November 10, and will have a limited release on November 12, before streaming on Netflix on November 19, 2021.

North Star Theater Company is staging Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical, '21 Chump Street,' and Susan Glaspell's drama, 'Trifles,' at the Performing Arts Center at Sussex County Community College in Newton this December.

A new clip of Stephanie Beatriz singing a song from 'Encanto' has been released. 'Welcome to the Family Madrigal' was written by Lin Manuel Miranda as one of the eight new original songs in the film.
