CTG to Host First Annual College & Career Fair This February

Center Theatre Group invites current high school students, parents and teachers to attend the first annual College & Career Fair For The Arts on February 6, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented in collaboration with the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) Foundation, the fair will take place at the Music Center Annex located at 601 W. Temple St. in Downtown L.A.

CTG to Offer Free THEATRE CRASH COURSE Workshop Series for Students This Fall

Center Theatre Group is hosting Theatre Crash Course, a free workshop series for high school students interested in learning more about directing, acting, scenic design, lighting design or costume design. Students will collectively develop design concepts and investigate scenes from "Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3)," which will play at the Mark Taper Forum in April. Ideas will then be presented to friends and family at the final workshop.

CTG to Host 'Family Sundays' for THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Center Theatre Group's Family Sundays program offers a special time at the theatre for clients of City of Hope, Para Los Niños, Bright Prospects and Alliance for Children's Rights as well as their families. 

CTG's The Shop Launches 2015 Reading Series with PAPA ESTA EN LA ATLANTIDA

Upcoming programming for Center Theatre Group's The Shop in 2015 will include readings of four plays - 'Papa esta en la Atlantida' by Javier Malpica, 'Stories from the Indian Boarding School,' by Native Voices Artists Ensemble, 'Martina y los Hombres Pajaro' by Monica Hoth and 'Emma and the Suzies' by Anthony Aguilar. Readings will take place at Los Angeles Public Libraries in Boyle Heights from today, September 15, through December 17, 2015.

CTG's Education and Community Partnerships Department is continuing its Theatre 101 series with a free student workshop tonight, April 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. The workshop, Kick-Start Your Acting Career 2.0, will be held in the Music Center Annex at 601 West Temple St. in Downtown Los Angeles.

Mackins-Harris have been selected to represent Los Angeles in the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) national finals. Contestants this year featured high school students from four Southern California cities, who performed in the regional finals at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum, Monday night, March 2, 2015. CTG's Theatre 101 to Offer Free Student Workshops This Spring

Many of the theatre basics are being taught this spring in the curriculum of Center Theatre Group's Theatre 101, a series of six free workshops taught by professionals that introduce students to acting, directing, playwriting, costuming, stage combat and comedy.

The Kirk Douglas Theatre was originally an historic 1940s Streamlined Moderne-style movie house called the Culver Theater, and it is believed that Kirk Douglas' movie "Spartacus" played there in the early 1960s. In 2003 it was transformed into an intimate 317-seat live theatre venue and named for the theatre's initial major donor: Kirk Douglas. On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre celebrated its 10th birthday with Anne and Kirk Douglas in attendance.

Center Theatre Group Announces Winners of 2014 August Wilson Monologue Competition

From a field of 12 local high school students, Jonah Gould, Mykaela Sterris and LeafRickard have been selected as the winners of the 2014 August Wilson Monologue Competition Los Angeles Regional finals. Contestants this year featured high school students from nine Southern California cities, who performed in the regional finals at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum, Tuesday night, March 11, 2014. The top three student performers received scholarships and the opportunity to perform again in New York City. The August Wilson Monologue Competition is presented by the Center Theatre Group Affiliates, a volunteer organization that supports Center Theatre Group's education and community partnerships programs.

TCG Releases Special Report on Arts Education

Workshops and classes in schools are the most common form of arts education programming, with nearly half of all programming targeting ages 12-18. These findings reflect the over 100 theatres that participated in the TCG Education Survey 2012 for the Special Report on Education 2012: Arts Education at the Core. Released by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the report also compiles essays from leading theatre education directors on the impact of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) on arts education as well as CCSS resources from the past year. Since 1999, TCG's education reporting has provided theatre professionals with the latest research, statistics and evolving methodologies in arts education.

CTG Announces 2013 Theatre Educator Fellows

Five teachers have been selected for Center Theatre Group's 2013 Theatre Educator Fellowship program, it was announced recently at a celebratory dinner for the opening of August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" presented at the CTG/Mark Taper Forum. The Theatre Educator Fellowship program, created by CTG's Education and Community Partnerships Department and supported by a grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co., awards fellowships to educators who implement theatre in their teaching practice.
