Galapagos is a newly adapted theatrical performance by Tucker Marder & Christian Scheider based on the 1985 Kurt Vonnegut novel. Galapagos is the first fully staged theatrical production presented by the Parrish Art Museum in the 200-seat Lichtenstein Theater, and is endorsed by the Kurt Vonnegut Estate. Just last night, Drama Desk and Tony Award winner Laura Benanti ('The Sound of Music Live!', Gypsy, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) hosted the 59th Annual Drama Desk Awards at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street).

The Theatre Museum awarded its 2014 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence at the Players Club, on Tuesday May 27, 2014. The mission of The Theatre Museum is to preserve, protect, and perpetuate the legacy of the theatre. It is the first and only chartered non profit museum dedicated to the history of Theatre. Since 1995 The Awards for Excellence have recognized individuals and organizations for their contribution to theater arts, education, theater history and preservation.
On Monday evening, BroadwayWorld.com was proud to watch its CEO and Founder, Robert Diamond, receive the 2014 Theatre Museum Award for Excellence in Arts Education. That same evening, Fathom Entertainment received an award for Excellence in Theatre History Preservation, which was presented to their new CEO, John Rubey.
Tony and Olivier Award winning producers, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley hosted a dinner in honor of the 2014-2015 Directors Project fellows on Tuesday, May 13th. The Directors Project fellows are in New York city for an intensive week-long orientation program which includes a series of events and opportunities to speak with theatre professionals. It was Bay Street's 3rd Annual Spring Honors Benefit, which this year honored Bonnie Comley and Stewart Lane, and Pia and Jimmy Zankel. The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center held a sold out world premiere of Moey's Fairytale Adventure, a 60-minute, fun-filled, immersive children's musical. The new musical is the brainchild of children's performer Melissa Levis, also known as Moey, and authors Leah Lane and Stewart F. Lane, a Tony Award winner. The musical was produced by James Beneduce, Bonnie Comley and Alyssa Renzi, and directed by Broadway veteran Marie Danvers (Phantom of the Opera, The New Moon, A Moment in Time.) Bruce Arakelian and Tom Bodkin have been in a relationship for thirty years. Same Sex marriage is not legal in their home state of North Carolina so Arakelian decided to surprise Bodkin with a flash mob proposal in Times Square on Friday morning, and Bodkin said, 'yes!' A November wedding is planned at the Manhattan Penthouse of Broadway producers, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley. Carole will be the officiant and Leah Lane is the couple's Best Person. Bay Street Theatre's Literature Live! presents THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK live on stage now thru Tuesday, November 26. The play is suggested for ages 13 and up. The program is sponsored in part by The Dana Foundation; Halstead Property; Suffolk County; The Sunny & Abe Rosenberg Foundation; Colgate-Palmolive, and the Town of Southampton. Public performance pricing is set at $12 for students and $25 for adults with special rates for schools and other groups. Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm.
The Laurie Beechman theatre was filled to capacity on Monday, November 4th for the Emerson College BFA Showcase featuring the BFA Acting and BFA Musical Theatre Class of 2013. Industry professionals hoping to find new cast members for their next projects and Emerson Alumni showed up to support and welcome the talented group to show business. The 20th Annual Watermill Center Summer Benefit took place on July 27, 2013 at the The Watermill Center in Water Mill, NY. Beginning at 6pm, the evening included cocktails provided by Bacardi USA, a silent auction, performances, art installations, dinner, dancing, and a live auction hosted by auctioneer Simon de Pury. This year 14 students were selected from dozens of applicants from across the United States to participate in the 2013 Young Playwrights, Inc. Urban Retreat. The Urban Retreat is a nine day intensive in New York City that culminates in a staged reading off-broadway at the Lucille Lortell Theatre. The 2013 Urban Retreat Young Playwrights are: Ari Bell, Leah Bell, Jacqueline Crispino, Frank Garland, Jordan Eli Goldberg, Candace Hartsuyker, Leah Lane, Mollie Lipkowitz, Erin Neitzel, Dahlia Pham, Melina Schmidt, William Stieglitz, Irene Tapert, and Connor Woods.
The 2013 Theatre Museum Awards for Excellence were held Monday night, June 3rd, at The Players Club. Honorees at the evening's ceremony included the Distinguished Service to the Theatre Award given, posthumously, to Helen Guditis and The Theatre Arts Education Award presented to Emerson College. The evening also included a special tribute to the Palace Theater in honor of its 100th anniversary. The Palace Tribute was a trip back in time to the vaudeville era. The Actors Fund's annual gala last night, April 29, 2013 at the New York Marriott Marquis honored Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro, the pay television company HBO and entrepreneur/film producer and Fund trustee Steve Kalafer. The trio will receive the Medal of Honor, the highest award from the 130-year old non-profit human services organization.
